Constitution
Mission Statement

We aim to play competative bridge in a friendly relaxed atmosphere

Constitution

1. Title

The Club shall be known as the Keyworth Bridge Club.

2. Objects

The objects of the Club shall be to provide for Duplicate Bridge and to hold competitions, matches and Bridge Drives.

3. Membership

The Club shall have a maximum of 140 members.

4. Subscriptions

Members shall pay such subscriptions as may be decided in advance at the Annual General Meeting. Membership of the Club shall be dependent on due payment.

5. Entrance Fee

New members shall pay such entrance fee, if any, as may be decided in advance at each Annual General Meeting.

6. Committee

The governing body of the Club shall be a Committee consisting of :

(a) the following officers, namely

  Chairman

  Deputy Chairman

  Treasurer

  Secretary

each of whom shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting for a period of one year but who shall be eligible for re-election and

(b) four additional committee members who shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting for a period two years, but being eligible for re-election.

PROVIDED THAT two of the initial four of such committee members shall initially be elected for one year only, thereafter being eligible for normal re-election.

The committee shall have the power to co-opt members to fill casual vacancies but any such committee member shall retire at the next Annual General Meeting but shall be eligible for re-election.

7. Sub-committees

The committee may delegate its powers as it thinks fit to sub-committee formed from the above.  All officers shall be ex-officio members of all sub-committees.

8. Meetings of the Committee

(a) Frequency. The committee shall meet one month before the Annual General Meeting and one month before the commencement of each season and otherwise at the request of the officers.

(b) Quorum. The quorum for committee meeting shall be five members.

(c) Notice. Not less than seven days notice of committee meetings shall be given unless all the members agree otherwise.

9. Annual General Meeting

An Annual General Meeting shall be held within six weeks after 31st. August, the end of the Club's financial year, on a date fixed by the committee. The Secretary shall give members of the Club not less than a minimum of seven days notice of any proposed resolutions affecting the Constitution.

The quorum for the Annual General Meeting and for the Special General Meeting shall be 20% of the paid-up members as at 1st. September preceding the meeting.

10. Special General Meetimg

Special General Meetings may be called by the Secretary giving not less than seven days notice and stating the purpose of the meeting.

either a) by decision of the committee

or      b) at the request of six members of the Club given in writing to the Secretary stating the purpose of the meeting.

11. Financial Year

The Club's financial year shall end on 31st. August.

12. Verifier

The Club shall annually appoint a person to check the accuracy of the Club's accounts in advance of the Annual General Meeting.

13. Changes in Constitution

This Constitution may be amended by resolution passed at any General Meeting.

14. Bye-Laws

The Committee may make Bye-Laws which shall be subject to review at any General Meeting.
