Charity Salver

The charity chosen to benefit from this year's Charity Salver event was the Kettering and District Stroke Association.

The winners on the day were Colin Porch and Amy Cherry.

Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We raised £473, via the raffle, auction and donations
which the club made up to £500.

Tea, Coffee and Biscuits

From 1 April 2014, table money (£2.50/£3.00) will include tea, coffee and biscuits.  Other refreshments will be charged as indicated on the "Bar List".
KETTERING BRIDGE CLUB

Kettering Bridge Club has its own impressive premises which were extended and updated a few years ago. 
We have two comfortable rooms: 
The upstairs area has room for fifteen tables
Downstairs there are seven tables

Defib

The club has purchased a defib which is placed upstairs near the window next to the kitchen area. Dr Robin Lee and Dr Roger Bailey recently gave short presentations to club members, on how to use the defib.  There is also a poster next to the defib, and we would urge all members to take a moment to familiarise themselves with what to do in the event of an emergency.

 
Hesitations - Do you really understand the law?

Many thanks to Eddie Luck for allowing us to publish the attached article on what we should be doing when a player hesitates.  Eddie's article very clearly explains how it's not just a case of "I reserve my right" or "Your partner can't bid"  - all members should read the article which is available by clicking on this box.

Broadly the format is the same as last year with the main change relating to the Manning Cup and the Friendly Teams now being held on the last Thursday of the month as Trophy and Plate competitions.  Detailed competition rules for the Cup and Plate will be published soon.  It is intended that the competitions will be played in the same friendly atmosphere that has been a feature of the monthly Friendly Teams event.

Please note that our bridge sessions start as follows:
  • Afternoon sessions - 1:30pm
  • Evening sessions Monday to Friday - 7:15pm
  • Evening sessions Saturday - 7:00pm
We ask that you are seated 10 minutes before the start of play.
  
Unless otherwise advertised, table money is £2.50 for members and £3.00 for visitors.
Find a Partner
If you want to play bridge at a particular session, but have no partner, there are various alternatives available to you:
  • you can contact the club
  • you can simply turn up for the sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons
  • you can phone likely partners using the telephone list available to members
  • and now, you can use the "Find a Partner" option in the Membership Area of the web site

1 No Trump Opening
Please note that it is no longer a requirement, at our bridge club sessions, to announce "12 - 14" in response to a 1 No Trump opening bid.  Any other opening range should be announced by the opener's partner.
