EBU Strategy Document

Strategy for the Future of the EBU and Duplicate Bridge in England

The proposal "Strategy for the Future of the EBU and Duplicate Bridge in England" is now available (click here).  The central pull out section of the April issue of English Bridge "You and the EBU"is also available.

Brian Crack has arranged a final consultation with Kent club representatives on Saturday, May 17th, to be held at Shorne Village Hall, commencing with a buffet lunch. He will be sending invitations to club secretaries in due course, but please make a note of this in your diaries now. We hope that all Kent clubs will be represented as this is a very important decision that needs to be taken. Those clubs supporting the proposals should not rely on the fact that they have indicated their support to mean they need not attend. Equally, those clubs against the proposals should ensure that their voice is heard. This brings the consultation period to an end and a vote on the future will be taken at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the EBU to be held on Wednesday, June 4th.

However, if you need clarification on any aspect of the proposal please do not hesitate to contact the EBU at strategy@ebu.co.uk.

ONE DAY GREEN-POINTED BRACKETED TEAMS

What’s it all about?

University of Kent, Canterbury, 11th May 2008
As an alternative to Swiss Teams and Pairs, why not enter this new type of event.

Teams of four are bracketed into sections of eight based on the aggregate masterpoint ranking of the team members. The top eight ranked teams form the top bracket (division 1), the next eight the second bracket and so on. Each team will then play a round robin of seven 7-board matches against the other teams in the same bracket.

In principle, the teams in each bracket would be fairly evenly matched and we hope that that would encourage more players to participate. This will therefore make an ideal first green-point event for less experienced players.

Green point awards for matches won or drawn will be the same as for Swiss events and there will be bonus awards to the top two teams in each bracket. The winners of each bracket will also receive cash prizes.

This will be the second bracketed teams event organised by the KCBA and a large majority of last year’s participants will be returning. Why not come and join them on 11 May.

If you do not have an entry form, you can click here and download one or you can obtain one from organiser, Monica Aitken, on 01435 872454 or by emailing mlaitken@gotadsl.co.uk
