Kelsall BBO duplicate tournaments are exclusive to our members and are hosted by our own TDs. The tournaments are held every Monday at 1.30pm and Tuesday at 7pm and cost BB$2.50.
Tournament dates and a link to results are shown on the website Home page, just the same as normal play at the Community Centre.
As usual, you can source a partner on the WhatsApp group if you like (let Nick or Anne know if you would like to be added to this).

What to do if you are a Kelsall Bridge Club Member and a BBO Member and want to play in our online tournaments |
All club members who are registered on BBO and have advised us of their BBO username are automatically authorised to play in Kelsall BBO tournaments.
To be ready to register for a tournament, you need to buy BBO dollars from the BBO website, if you haven't already purchased dollars for other tournaments. Please see the specific instructions for "How to buy BBO$" below.
You would then need to register, with your partner, for the tournament from 2 hours before tournament start- see the instructions below "How to register for tournaments".
Please note, if you are a Kelsall member and play on BBO, but have never advised us of your BBO username, you will NOT be automatically authorised to play in tournaments. If you would like to join us, just let Anne or Nick know your username and we will add you to our list of authorised names.

How to buy BB$ |
Click HERE to buy BB$, then select your method of payment (card or Paypal) and amount of dollars to buy. These will be added to your account and the entry fee deducted when you enter tournaments.
Things to note:
- Always use the website link above to buy BBO dollars. If you are using the BBO app on a tablet or iPad DO NOT buy BBO dollars through the app, as you will be charged around 30% more. If you are not sure if you are using an app, just buy them from the website as above anyway.
- If you intend on playing in the same pair in all tournaments, if you prefer only one person need buy dollars, as when you register you get an opportunity to pay the entry fee for your partner. You could then settle up between yourselves. Or both of you could buy dollars and pay for yourselves.
- If you would prefer to be helped through the purchase or have any concerns about buying on the internet (BBO is perfectly safe) call Anne, Nick or Vony and we will guide you.
- Once you have bought your dollars, you will be shown your balance in a small box on the bottom right each time you log in.

How to register for a tournament |
See this page HERE showing how to register, with screen shots. Please note, both you and your partner need to be logged in at the same time to do this and, if you are the one registering, your partner needs to accept. Registration will be open from 2 hours before the tournament start.
IMPORTANT. Once you have registered, it's worth checking to be sure you are actually on the registered list. To do this, go to the same place as you would to register, but click on "Entries (? Max ?)" - where the question marks are numbers- and see if your names are on the list. Please ask for help if you are unsure about anything.

How to use the BBO "Chat Manager" facility for tournaments |
The BBO Chat Manager allows you to save comments that you will want to use during the tournament, so that you can just click and chat without having to type them out every time. Useful for introducing yourselves to a new table. Here's how to do it.
Setting up Chat Manager
- You can do this at any time- best to do it when you are not playing
- Click in the white part of the chat area and a short menu pops up. Select Chat Manager
- A Chat Manager box will appear. Type in your introduction and brief system message (eg "Hello it’s John and Fred. We play Benji ACOL, weak NT and red transfers") and click Add.
- Your chat message is now saved.
- You can save more than one message if you wish, so can set up another greeting and system message if you play with a different partner
Using Chat Manager during a tournament
- When you arrive at a new table or new opponents arrive at your table, again click on the white part of the chat area and then Chat Manager in the short menu
- Click on the message you want to use and a small chat box will appear. Check that the message is directed to the right place (ie Table, rather than Lobby or Tournament) and then click Chat and your message will be delivered. 4 clicks and it's done without having to type it out every time.
- If the message is not directed to the table, click on the small triangle to select Table from the list.

Things you should know about tournaments |
Here's a few things you should know about Kelsall BBO tournaments, if you haven't played tournaments before.
- There are 9 rounds of 2 boards
- Each round is timed at 16 minutes maximum. If you play the 2 boards in less time, you will have to wait. If it takes you and your opponents more time, the game will still end at 16 minutes and you will get a score estimated by BBO. If you disagree with the score, call the director and ask for a review
- You are automatically moved on to the next pair when the 16 minute round has ended
- You can call the director from the 3 white lines in the blue box, if necessary
- 'Undo' is not active during our tournaments
- At the end of the tournament, the game ends quite abruptly. If you wait a bit, the results will come up. You can access the results in your History box under the tab "Recent Tournaments" later too. The results will also be posted on the Kelsall website in the same way that any duplicate tournament is.

What to do if you are not a member of BBO or not a member of Kelsall Bridge Club |
If you are a Kelsall Club member and not a member of BBO, but would like to play in tournaments, we can help you get logged in and support you for a few games until you feel comfortable using the website and can move on to playing in tournaments. All of this sounds very complicated, but it's really not as complicated as you think and even the least IT confident people are playing comfortably after 2 or 3 games.
If you are on BBO or not, but are not a Kelsall member but would like to play in our tournaments you can currently sign up for membership, if introduced by a current member. The membership fee is currently £10. If you are not on BBO, we can help you to register and can support you until you feel comfortable.
