MEMBER PROFILE NUMBER 32 - BART
MEMBER PROFILE NUMBER 32 - BART

Full Name - Bart Onkenhout

Date of Birth - October 7th

Played at the Bridge Club since - 2017

Bridge Club Number - 220

Other Bridge Clubs - JBC

When did you learn to play bridge - Bridge has been a constant in my life since I was very small. Several of my mother´s friends taught me throughout the years.  I only started seriously a couple of years ago.

Regular Partners - At first my grandmother and mother were my only partners, but they – annoyingly – tend to say 3 NT no matter what I do.  So I am extending beyond them.  Anita Dixon played with me a couple of times, which was fabulous because she is great at explaining what I should and should not do and why.  I also enjoy a game with my brother, although we can drive each other mad.

Thing you like most about the Club - I like this club for its friendly environment, particularly its fun and interesting members.

Thing that would most improve our Club - Nothing

Which JSBSC member is your favourite opponent - Partner and opponent-wise I am still beginning. As long as my percentage is higher than my brother´s and I am beating the rest of the family, I am happy.

Anything thing else of interest - I am so busy working in different countries, that bridge doesn´t quite figure in my personal life, except when I am in Spain. Poker is really my game. Bridge is a good game for a gambler like me, since it takes discipline to get a good result.

Thing that would most improve our Club - I am happy with the Club as it is.

Which JSBSC member is your favourite opponent -  My favourite opponents are the very good players. My afternoon is made when I can give them a zero.

Anything thing else of interest - Friesland, my place of birth, is a country of lakes, water and more lakes. We sailed, skated or sailed and skated. When it rained, we played bridge. It rained frequently.  Therefore I started playing bridge when I was only 12 and have been playing for 84 years.  Although I was a master player in the Netherlands, age has dimmed my brilliance a bit.
