Competition Rules

This page contains details about the club competititions and the rules.

COVID_19 Effect

As our 2021-22 year starts, we are still only running online events although we hope to re-open the club sometime in the Spring of '22.

Consequently there is a shortened list of competitions currently available to players although once we return to the Ropes Hall, we may be able to include some of our players favourite events.

Please see the "Competitions in 2021-22" menu item for details of those running this year.

  BAMBERGER TROPHY

Replaces the Bamberger Teams of Four Competition held annually in July.

A charity IMP pairs competition played annually either online or face-to-face where all players will play the same 24 boards.  Robot pairs or partnerships that include a robot may play, but these scores are excluded from the calcuation.  If there is a half table in the f2f event, the scores will be factored to take account of the missing pair.  The scores will be combined, and the  winners will be the “team” made up of the winning NS pair and the winning EW pair.

  CLUB PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP

This competition is open to all members and will be run cumulatively throughout the year.  You need to play a minimum of 12 times with any partner to qualify and the pair with the highest average score over the year will win.
Note that it is possible to appear in the rankings with different partners.  Only partnerships that have played a minimum of 12 times together will be included in the final rankings.

  HANDICAP SCORES CALCULATION

Handicaps are based on the average actual percentage scores for the previous 12 months taken away from 50.00.
Examples: For a member with a 12 month average of 52.51% the handicap would be -2.51 and for an average of 46.25% the handicap would be +3.75.
Handicaps are recalculated and updated by the Bridgewebs program on the 18th of each month.
For members who have not played at least 5 times in the previous 12 months and for visitors their handicap will be -5.00.
For a pair, their handicap will be the average of the combined individual handicaps.
The handicap score is the sum of the actual % score and the handicap.
