Training & Mentoring

The club has several options for those wishing to learn to play bridge or looking to develop skills;

Teaching/training: Formal 3 term courses (3 x 10 lessons) following the Bridge For All method for newcomers to the game (Beginning Bridge) or improvers (Continuing Bridge). Courses take place on Monday mornings at Hutton Community Centre or, subject to sufficient demand, elsewhere at times by arrangement. The cost includes the relevant course book, English Bridge Union membership and club membership for one year.

Play and Learn Club: Social, supervised and assisted bridge session on Monday afternoons (occasionally with some themed hands from recent lesson topics) at Hutton Community Centre.

Friendly First Wednesday: The first Wednesday session each month at Beckets Keys School is especially welcoming and suited to players new to club sessions.

Coaching/training: Customised single or multiple lessons by arrangement.

Mentoring: Ad hoc mentoring sessions or lessons by invitation for those who play regularly during our Friendly First Wednesday sessions, these are free to members.

For development purposes the club enters a 'Friendly League' team of four into an introductory county competition and runs occasional events such as 'The Fledgling Fours' for less experienced players. Please contact either our Teaching Organiser John Rayment (07454 745438) or Tony French (07957 406088) for more details.

Learn Play Socialise Compete

Class of '18!

♠   ♣

Our first group of 10 beginners are seen below getting to grips with Minibridge during their very first lesson:

We hope that they come to enjoy the game and membership of our club as much as we do!

So welcome to the class of '18, we look forward to their furture forays into the club scene and hope the group is the first of many over the years to come.

Club introduces teaching and Play and Learn

The club is very pleased indeed to announce that from May we will become a teaching club!

If you wish to learn to play, or as an existing player you know of someone who would like to learn full details are available here, the course begins on 14th May at 10:00. In addition we will shortly be starting a Play and Learn Club on Monday afternoons offering a relaxed social atmosphere for a game, the club will be both supervised and hosted. This club is ideal for newer payers wanting to gain experience before playing in full club sessions and details may be found here. The venue for both the lessons and club will be Hutton Community Centre.

We hope members will be fully supportive of these initiatives as well as the existing Friendly First Wednesday session, if you feel able to help in any way please let a member of the committee know.

Mentoring a success!

The club’s first mentoring sessions were held in March and June and were found to be very helpful for all present. Many thanks to David Warren who gave up his time to introduce a few useful conventions to attendees as well as explain some etiquette.

Ad-hoc mentoring sessions are free of charge to club members who regularly play during our Friendly First Wednesday nights, please let Tony know if you have an interest in attending or if you are willing to share your experience with our newer members.
