We are a friendly medium-sized club and are very welcoming of guests or visitors on all occasions. As well as the weekly club duplicate we host special events such as the Club Championship, EBU and Charitable Simultaneous Pairs, the Fledgling Fours and a Christmas party. We also have a welcoming and active social scene with an annual weekend holiday. The first Wednesday session of each month is known as 'Friendly First Wednesday' and is especially suited to the less experienced.
If new to the game you may learn to play bridge with us and we also offer coaching and mentoring.
The club fields teams in all the major Essex and some national competitions and has been known to do well, please follow the menu buttons on the left for more information.
Learn – Play – Socialise – Compete
If you wish to play but need a partner please contact Carol McCue via email or 01277 655785 and we will do our very best to accommodate you.
Many congratulations to David Piper and Graham Beeton who won the 2018 Club Championship Pairs on Monday 8th October.
Last season's competitions were very hotly contested and we offer our congratulations to the winners below:-
This year's competitions all all up and running.
The club is pleased to announce we're off again to the Ardington Hotel for what has become a hugely popular annual trip. We'll be over indulging with food, drink, fun and bridge from Friday 27th - Monday 30th September, be sure to pack your sun cream!
As always single rooms without supplement sell out fast so if you're planning on coming along please be prompt, we could not accommodate everyone last year and we would really like to see as many of you as possible, this year’s details are here.
Our current beginner’s class is coming to an end, hopefully many of you will have noticed several of the ‘Class of ‘18’ making an impact on Wednesday evenings with some promising results I may add! Shortly we plan to run the second year course for some of these students who will be joined by a couple of newcomers. We'll also begin a new course of beginner's lessons for this year’s intake; ‘Class of ‘19’ – we can see a friendly rivalry in the future.
Both of these classes, ‘Beginning Bridge’ and ‘Continuing Bridge’, will start in early April and run at Hutton Community Centre on Monday mornings. Please help us spread the word by advertising the courses and/or passing the details on to anyone who may have an interest. Please contact John or Tony.
Our Play and Learn Club on Monday afternoons ably managed by Angela will continue throughout. This session has up to 18 boards with hand records but discrete questions may be asked of the session leaders, inexperienced players may refer to notes and although etiquette will be observed it will be fully explained. The club is ideal for any player undertaking lessons, any with limited experience, those just returning to the game or anyone looking to test new systems or partnerships. This is a highly social and friendly session looking to gently introduce players to our club and the scene at large, any player/s at any standard looking for a game on Monday afternoons are most welcome. The session is scored manually and uploaded to this website but not EBU graded, existing members of any standard are encouraged to come along, experienced players are most welcome to offer their assistance. Why not support the club's efforts by visiting sometime?
The club is also looking into the posibility of hosting a school/youth bridge club, Linda, Tony and John are attending a seminar in the spring. If this takes off the club will need volunteer mentors, please contact one of the committee on a club night for more information.
We would also like to remind members that those of you who play regularly during our Friendly First Wednesday sessions will be able to obtain free ad-hoc customised lessons or mentoring sessions from either one of our teachers or some of our more experienced players. Please ask if interested in improving your game.
