We are a friendly medium-sized club and are very welcoming of guests or visitors on all occasions. As well as the weekly club duplicate we host special events such as the Club Championship, Spring Individual, EBU and Charitable Simultaneous Pairs, the Fledgling Fours and a Christmas party. We also have a welcoming and active social scene with an annual weekend holiday. The first Wednesday session of each month is known as 'Friendly First Wednesday' and is especially suited to the less experienced.
If new to the game you may learn to play bridge with us and we also offer coaching and mentoring.
The club fields teams in all the major Essex and some national competitions and has been known to do well, please follow the menu buttons on the left for more information.
Learn – Play – Socialise – Compete
If you wish to play but need a partner please contact Carol McCue via email or 01277 655785 and we will do our very best to accommodate you.
Many congratulations to Sue and Tony French who won the 2017 Club Championship Pairs on Monday 16th October in a field of 16 pairs.
This season's competitions are under way and very hotly contested, the current leaders are shown below:-
Sheila gave club members the 'thumb's up' and a hugely encouraging toothy grin when they visited her in hospital at the weekend. She said her spirits were raised by the visit during which cake, cards and the best wishes of many members were delivered. We hope this adds to her determination to complete all the physio she's been told may get her back to being as mobile and independent as she was prior to her fall. That's certainly what we're all hoping for and she did seem in a determined mood and as spirited as ever. Get well very soon Sheila!
The club is very pleased indeed to announce that from the 14th May we will become a teaching club!
If you wish to learn to play, or as an existing player you know of someone who would like to learn full details are available here, the course begins on 14th May. In addition we will shortly be starting a Play and Learn Club on Monday afternoons offering a relaxed social atmosphere for a game, the club will be both supervised and hosted. This club is ideal for newer payers wanting to gain experience before playing in full club sessions and details may be found here. The venue for both the lessons and club will be Hutton Community Centre.
We hope members will be fully supportive of these initiatives as well as the existing Friendly First Wednesday session, if you feel able to help in any way please let a member of the committee know.
Congratulations to Tara/Jagdish and Sue C/Jill on their 2nd place in the Fledgling Fours team competition held in Cranham on Friday 16th Feb! They were beaten by a much more experienced team but were in contention right until the last round, Bettie/Andrew and Ann D/(Roy Udall) followed them home with a fine 3rd place.
In the prestigious Ray Cornell Trophy on Sunday the 18th our teams finished in 2nd and 7th places repectively and therefore 2nd overall in the race to represent Essex in the Garden Cities national competition. This is an execellent performance from Dennis/Basil, Graham/David P, David C/Albert and Colin/David T in a very strong field indeed, very well done guys! A particularly impressive set of x-imps from David C & Albert is worthy of a special mention.
Both the experienced and up and coming players of the club are proving we're heading in the right direction!
Thank you to all our players for supporting the club and agreeing to represent us.
On Sunday 4th June Coral Fallon and Jon Ward won the Club Pairs with the 3rd place slot going to Theo Todman and Colin Scott scoring 63.74% & 61.25% respectively.
This placed Hutton comfortably top of the clubs to become the winning club for the 2nd year running, we have also provided the winning individual pair for 4 of the last 5 years!
Well done to all our pairs taking part and especially those mentioned above, click here to see your club at the top.
