Please note that the Club Championship Pairs, which incorporates the Andrew Trevanion Memorial Silver Plate and Pat Townend Trophy will now be played on Sunday14th April 2019.
Over the next year the club will be looking to increase the numbers on the TD panel. The club will fund all costs of training in return for a regular commitment. As a first step, if you are interested please let Denis know on firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07802 804408. There will be a short preliminary meeting from 6 - 6.45 p.m. on Tuesday 26th February. The purpose of this is to deal with any questions that prospective candidates may have.
The club will be hosting a heat of the above event on Thursday 21st February at 7:00 p.m. If you want to play, please put your names on the event list on the club noticeboard.
The Club will be open on all Thursday evenings in February and March (weather permitting).
In February the schedule is as follows:
7th February - a short meeting to kick off the pairs development programme, aimed at improving partnership performance for established pairs. There is a separate notice about this on the club notice board
14th February - the pairs development programme will commence and there will also be the monthly mentoring meeting for participants and mentors.
The Club will also be open on 7th and 14th as a practice night although we cannot at this stage guarantee facilitator presence.
21st February - the Club is staging a heat of the Margery Cartwright Simultaneous Pairs which is a Yorkshire County pairs competition. All pairs are very welcome to enter. The event is particularly helpful in that a booklet is available (after the evening) showing each hand along with notes thereon. There is a separate notice about this on the club notice board
28th February - we will hold a session discussing the bidding and play of the most interesting hands from the Margery Cartwright Simultaneous Pairs held the previous week.
The schedule for March Thursday evenings will be published at a later date.
THURSDAY EVENINGS CAN BE AN IMPORTANT WAY OF IMPROVING YOUR BRIDGE PERFORMANCE.
The above club teams of four event will be held on Tuesday 19th February, starting at 7 p.m. Please enter your team on the event notice on the club noticeboard. There is also a section for those pairs who are looking for teammates. If you have amy queries please contact Denis Murphy. There will be no other duplicate Bridge that evening.
The above event, for the Ann Staveley Trophy, will take place on 24th February 2019. The nearest heat will be at Bradford Bridge Club, although other participating clubs can be found on the EBU website - https://www.ebu.co.uk/masters-pairs#clubs
The event is open to players below the rank of Regional Master. This includes: Local Masters, Club Masters, Area Masters, District Masters, Advanced Masters, Star Masters, Tournament Masters or Premier Masters.
If the weather becomes wintry, the decision to run or cancel a session or lesson will rest with the director or teacher of that session/lesson, usually after consultation with Denis or Pearl Murphy. The status of sessions affected will be updated on the website as promptly as possible, but if you need any further information at the time please contact Denis on 07802 804408 or Pearl on 07850 169660.
This event is played over the Winter months on four different Mondays. Although these are normal Monday aggregate evenings, and count towards the Monday ladder competition, to win the trophy you count the three best results from the four rounds, playing with a different partner each time. The last round is on February 25th.
Following the successful mentoring scheme over the past 2 years, the club is instigating a Bridge Development Scheme. The purpose is to provide a friendly and supportive environment for people to develop their skills and confidence at all levels within the club. The programme will run on the second Thursday of each month from October to April. Ideally, club members will enroll as partnerships, but there may be scope to deal with individuals too. For further information click the title of this new item or see the notices at the club.
From the beginning of May, every Friday will be a teams duplicate, instead of the previous twice a month. In addition to the normal sign-up page on the club noticeboard we will be instigating a system whereby people can seek partners or pairs can seek team mates, for the purpose of putting teams together. At present we are making these changes for a trial period. We will inform members of progress on this news page.
The EBU has completed its decennial review of the laws
and issued a poster that can be accessed by clicking on the header.
The Club TDs are in the process of familiarising themselves
with the new rule book
but please make allowance for a 'bedding in' period.
However, the laws have been simplified where possible.
A new Health & Safety policy document has been produced, thanks to Vivien Aizlewood.

Any comments should be passed on to a committee member.
The Committee, in consultation with the Tournament Directors, have agreed that evening sessions will continue to start promptly at 19.00 and, as far as possible, will end by 22.30. Based on the number of pairs, the TDs will choose a movement to allow this 22.30 finish and will manage the movement accordingly, including reducing the length of the break if need be.
The TD may also remove a board if a table has fallen behind. Persistently slow pairs will be warned in the first instance and may then be subject to a procedural penalty.
To help the TD to achieve this, pairs are asked to be at the table and ready to play by 18.55 at the latest. All pairs are expected to stay until the end of the session (unless sitting out the last round)
Any queries or comments please speak to a member of the Committee
A Maintenance Book has been placed on the Noticeboard in the hallway of number 4. When any work on the Bridge Club property is required please make a note of the job in the book and add your name so the Maintenance Group can come back to you with any queries.
