First of all let us celebrate the Performance of the E Team in gaining promotion to Division 9
They were unlucky not to win the Divisional Trophy, being "pipped" on the last day.
The A and B teams just managed to save their Divisional status ( Div.1 and Div. 4 respectively), by winning their last matches by just enough VPs to survive.
The last A team match was particularly dramatic. Going into the last 8 board stanza 23 IMP's down, they managed to gain 45 IMP's on this last set to come out with plus 22 IMP's or 13-7 VP victory.
In Division 8 the C Team match was postponed, but the D Team won. Unfortunately one of these two teams must be relegated to Division 9, depending on the result of the C Team rearranged match.
Finally the F team finished bottom of Division 10, without winning a single match ( but coming very close on one occasion). However those who played will have gained good experience of Team play, and can look forward to the next season with confidence.
We should also congratulate those Club members who play for Shelley , who won their Division (5), and can therefore look forward to playing our B team next season!
The top six teams from the Wimpenny Trophy, held last October, qualify for the Yorkshire Cup final, which is to be held at Leeds Bridge Club on Sunday 15th April. More information can be found by using the following link http://www.ycba.co.uk/events/ycup-f.htm
The qualifying teams can be found here, or on the club website on the Results Calendar, but they included the following players (one cited from each team): Joan Payne, Barbara Binns, Ken Baxter, Pat Whitehouse, Pam Cooper, Alan Aizlewood. In some cases there may need to be a substitute if the team is to play in the final. A substitute can be used as long as that player did not play in a different qualifying team that will also be playing in the final.
In relation to the forthcoming introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation in May 2018, the EBU has a legal requirement to attempt to contact all members about whom they hold information.
Where possible they would like to do this by email, as it is the easiest and cheapest way of doing so. Without a correct email address they may need to use a postal method, which could be quite costly.
We have a number of members for whom the EBU do not have an email address, or have an incorrect email address. We will post a list of these members, based on the EBU’s records, on the club notice board
Please could all members check that the EBU has their correct email address, either by contacting them directly or by updating your own details on My EBU. (Please note that the password reset system for My EBU uses the email address currently on the system for that individual - so if that is wrong you won't be able to access the information to reset it. In such situations you will need to contact the EBU by phone or email)
More success for members of the Club.
Congratulatons to Les Brown and Roger Sharp, who were convincing winners at Bradford on Sunday, Jan 14, with a margin in excess of two percentage points.
The EBU has completed its decennial review of the laws
and issued a poster that can be accessed by clicking on the header.
The Club TDs are in the process of familiarising themselves
with the new rule book
but please make allowance for a 'bedding in' period.
However, the laws have been simplified where possible.
Following comments from some members, detailed analysis and research, and a discussion at the AGM, the practice of awarding free game vouchers to the winners of the regular duplicate sessions has ended with immediate effect. The last session for which vouchers will be awarded was Wednesday 31st May 2017. Existing vouchers will be honoured for a year from their issue date.
In future, session prize money will be awarded based on master points gained – 3p per master point gained. The money will be paid in one payment, at the AGM.
From the analysis we have done so far this is cost effective for the club and saves administration but more importantly is equitable and ensures many more players are rewarded for their successes.
Pearl Murphy, On behalf of the Committee
A new Health & Safety policy document has been produced, thanks to Vivien Aizlewood.
Please click on the heading to open the document.
Any comments should be passed on to a committee member.
The Committee, in consultation with the Tournament Directors, have agreed that evening sessions will continue to start promptly at 19.00 and, as far as possible, will end by 22.30. Based on the number of pairs, the TDs will choose a movement to allow this 22.30 finish and will manage the movement accordingly, including reducing the length of the break if need be.
The TD may also remove a board if a table has fallen behind. Persistently slow pairs will be warned in the first instance and may then be subject to a procedural penalty.
To help the TD to achieve this, pairs are asked to be at the table and ready to play by 18.55 at the latest. All pairs are expected to stay until the end of the session (unless sitting out the last round)
Any queries or comments please speak to a member of the Committee
