With fewer tables it is no longer feasible to play this as a knock-out competition. As from 2023 the Thompson Shield will be awarded to the winner of the Annual General Meeting Club Pairs. 

The Thompson Shield was presented to the Club by Jo and Malcolm Thompson in 2003.  The rules of the competiton are:

• Pairs Event
• A knock-out competition played over sevral months
• The final should be played before the date of the Annual General Meeting
• The draw for each round will take place at the club
• The first pair out of the hat should sit N/S; the second pair to sit E/W
• Both pairs to start at the same table
