ALL GAMES SILVER POINTS!
Unit 252 of the ACBL (Beaufort and Jasper counties) will offer a cash award to two local C pairs to travel for the one-day District 7 North American Pairs (“NAP”) championship at a location and on a November 2018 date not yet determined.
To be eligible, (1) each player must have fewer than 500 master points and be a non-life master as of April 30, 2018, (2) each player must have his/her principal residence in Beaufort or Jasper County as of June 1, 2018 and (3) each pair must play together in at least two of the six Hilton Head club 499er games on Thursday mornings at 9:00 am on June 7 & 14, July 5 & 12 and August 2 & 9. The two best scores for each pair in those six games will be taken into account to compute an average percentage score.
The top scoring pair will receive a cash award of $500 and the second place pair will receive a cash award of $300, provided the pair actually competes in the District 7 NAP championship.
Note that at the District finals, pairs will be competing only against other C pairs. Thus, any qualifying pair has an excellent chance of doing well there. (In 2013, the three pairs competing from Beaufort County all finished in the top five in the District!) Finishing in the top four pairs in District 7 in November would qualify the pair to compete in the national NAP championship next March in Memphis. Each such pair would receive a significant cash subsidy to compete in Memphis.
Any pair that does not score high enough to receive a cash award may still travel to compete in the District 7 championship and would be eligible to win one of the cash subsidies to the national NAP championship.
The location and date of the District finals will likely be published in the July edition of District 7 News. Based on past championships, Atlanta and Spartanburg are two likely locations.
