EBU - Club Focus

The latest edition of the EBU newsletter entitled Club Focus has been printed and can be viewed at Club Focus or by clicking on the EBU News link above. This is an interesting addition to the EBU Bridge Magazine, so have a look and see what you think.

English Bridge Union

At the recent meeting of the Shareholders of the EBU the proposal to introduce a Pay to Play Scheme in 2010 was agreed. This will mean that everyone playing bridge in an affiliated club will automatically become a member of the EBU and the annual subscription will be abolished.

Welcome to the Highfield Bridge Club's Website. All bridge players are welcome at our friendly club and on most evenings there is a Host player. Duplicate Bridge with master points is played (normally in two sections) allowing for all standards of play.

Children in Need

Thank you everyone for supporting the Children in Need Simultaneous pairs on Tuesday, 11th November. Eighteen and a half tables was brilliant and probably the best turnout ever for a Simultaneous pairs evening.

Golf and Bridge Day

Oh dear!! The Annual Golf and Bridge Day has had to be changed to 16th April 2009 at Les Ormes. (I forgot all about the Jersey Congress and we don't really want to compete with that).

The format will be similar to previous years with golf in the morning followed by lunch and bridge. There will be some availability for non-golfers to join us for lunch and bridge. Full details will be available in the New Year but please do put the date it in your diaries.

Tips for Team Players

Some years ago, Sue Rankin was kind enough to provide tips for less experienced team players. We have produced these on our website under News and Items of Interest and hope that they might help us to do better when we play against Guernsey in November.

Bridge Etiquette

There is a very interesting article on the Information pages on Bridge etiquette. Please do have a look at it and see if there is anything that you could improve upon during a bridge session. We all waste time by chatting between hands and explaining to our partners how "they could have made their contract". Please be brief and don't hold up play whilst having your own discussions. Finally please be polite at all times both to your opponents and your partner, we are all there to have a pleasant evening.
