HIGHCLIFFE DUPLICATE BRIDGE CLUB
HOST SYSTEM & DUTIES
Host Lists for Mondays and Wednesdays are produced covering periods of six months from 1st April to 30th September and 1st October to 31st March the following year.
The lists can be found in the Information File and on the website and should be checked by members to ascertain when they are required to act as Host.
It is obligatory for a Member to be Host if their name is listed.
If you are unable to fulfil your obligation as Host on the allocated date, you must change with another member.
You personally must contact the other member and arrange the change; then inform the Host Coordinator of the change
and alter the Host List in the Information File accordingly
[when making alterations, please remove list from plastic case and use the sticky label slips which can be found behind the Host List].
Each Greystones Newsletter gives the names of the Hosts for the period covered by that issue
[in Bridge - Duplicate section] and the Host Coordinator will contact the relevant person in the week before they are due to be Host to remind them.
How to be the perfect Host
♦ It is important that you arrive at Greystones at 6.00pm.
♦ Mark up scorecards - initially sufficient for 10 tables - one scorecard for each N/S and E/W pair for the numbers 1-10 [no scorecard is written for 1 N/S as this is the Director's seat]. Mark up further scorecards for additional tables as necessary.
♦ You may find it helpful if the week before you are Host you take home the scorecards to mark up.
♦ Take up a position by the front door in the entrance hall so that you are aware of people when they arrive.
♦ Ask if they have a partner or if they need one.
♦ You should not allow anyone to enter Greystones who is not a member of the Bridge Club.
♦ Please ask a Committee member to welcome visitors who have come to play.
♦ Please call the Director or a Committee member to speak to other visitors to the building.
♦ Arrange to pair up people who come without a partner and if a player remains without a partner you [as Host] will play with that person. Otherwise you will have to go home.
♦ You are responsible for the security of the front door until 6.35 pm when you should ensure the door is locked shut and advise the Director whether you are joining the bridge session or having to go home.
