Knave of Spades: by Geoff Lacey

Most players are familiar with McKenney suit-preference signals in defence: when the card chosen is irrelevant to the outcome of the current trick, a high card indicates preference for the higher-ranked outside suit apart from trumps, whereas a low card highlights the lower-ranked outside suit.  Commonly, such signals are used when leading for partner to ruff – after taking the ruff, the suit partner was guided to return may allow you to regain the lead and deliver a second ruff, or make some other advantageous play.  Also, when your initial ace or king lead hits dummy’s singleton, partner can make a “suit preference signal”, to show which suit you can continue safely. Mini bridge teaching course

My name is Trupti Shah and I have volunteered to promote and teach bridge to juniors in Middx and Herts. In order to run mini bridge/bridge successfully, I am organising a teacher training session on 21 June 2016. Those interested to work alongside with me and be part of this rewarding venture, please contact me 07539217764. Click here for further information.

Humble Cup Final

The Robinson team (Arni Anidjar-Romain. June Ball, Tim Nash, Helen Robinson, Robert Teesdale, Mark Westley) have won the Humble Cup beating the Davies team (Jackie Davies, Naomi Gibbs, Simon Mostyn, Jonathan Osgood) by 30 imps in the final.

We wish the winning team good luck in representing the county in the Pachabo Cup, the national inter county teams-of -four championship in June.

Tugrul Kaban and Geoff Lacey's new books

A Complete System for the Tournament Bridge Player by Tugrul Kaban
This book is designed as a ready-made complate system for the tournament player. The system framework is 2/1, which is laid bare in the first part of the book. Then comes the author's choice of conventions and methods to cover all practical aspects of bidding, taking each part of the convention card in turn. There are also many user-friendly smaller gadgets for competitive bidding situations. The link to the introduction by Master Point Press, the publisher, is
Master Point Press where there is also a free download available of the first 15 pages.
In the UK it is currently available from Amazon -

Knave of Spades: More entertaining hands from the world of duplicate bridge by Geoff Lacey.
Peek over the author's shoulder as he negotiates forty hands from duplicate pairs or team-of-four events. Savour the successes, reflect on the reversals, appreciate the analyses. Good writing and good fun for intermediate club and congress players, guaranteed to put a smile on your face.Amazon - Geoff Lacy
