The HBA Charity for 2019-20

Our nominated charity for 2017-18 was the Rennie Grove Hospice and through the Marjorie Lukyn, we raised £1,299 for them. We would now like your proposals for next season's charity.

The HBA normally supports 1 or 2 charities each year, preferably small local charities that will feel the benefit of our relatively small donation.

Nominations should be sent to the HBA secretary by email, no later than April 20th, 2019. Please supply your contact details and any additional information about the charity that you can.

Congratulations to all those achieving new master point promotions, with particular mention to Tugrul Kaban who is now a Grand Master. Click here.. to see the March list.

Notice of the Annual General Meeting

Sunday 19th May at Gosling Sports Park, Welwyn with a 12.00 start

The (short) AGM is open to all HBA members and will be followed by a duplicate pairs session.

As well as the usual AGM agenda the committee are proposing a change to the financial year. It is proposed that the financial year will be changed to run from 1st July until 30th June. The reasons for this proposed change are:

  1. Allows production of accounts with all costs for the year accurately stated without the need for accruals to allow for expenses incurred that have not yet been billed.
  2. Will enable the AGM to be held at the beginning of the new season in the tea interval of the HBA Rose Bowl

It is also proposed that all trophies should be presented at the event at which they are won which will reduce the AGM Prizegiving to just the HBA Leagues and Victor Ludorum awards. It is hoped that this change will also draw a greater audience to a shorter event.

Please submit any nominations for officers or motions for discussion to the secretary by April 20th to enable them to be published in advance. Nominations should be completed on the attached form - click here...

Motions for discussion should be documented and have a Proposer and Seconder.

Please submit preferably by email to robert.teesdale@btinternet.com or by post to  3, Turners Meadow, Aston Clinton, AYLESBURY, HP22 5WS
