Welcome to Harlow Knights B C
Our Club
Our Club

Harlow Knights Bridge Club meets every Friday evening at the Cooks Spinney School in Harlow where we play duplicate pairs most weeks and teams of four every second Friday of the month. Founded in the 1970s, the club was originally known as ‘Harlow Non-Smokers’ but we changed our name to Harlow Knights when smoking became less of an issue and to honour Ray Knight, one of the founders of the club.

We welcome all players hoping to improve their game and wishing to join a club where they will be encouraged in a friendly atmosphere. We would like to inspire all our members to improve their standard, and we support them to go on and play in County and National events.

We are affiliated to both the EBU and the Hertfordshire Bridge Association.

Parking at Cooks Spinney, and road closure at The Stow

Most of our normal car park will be out of use from now until the end of July. We can park in the playground instead - when you drive through the main gates, turn left through the wooden gates to get to the playground. There is plenty of room there.

If you normally approach Harlow Knights via the Stow, you may have seen the road closure. This will continue to the end of April. An alternative route from the Aldi roundabout is to take First Ave (going east away from the town centre), travel for half a mile then turn right into Momples Road, then first right into Mardyke Road. Cooks Spinney is the 5th turning on the left. It doesn't take any longer!

Harlow pair win Herts County Cadet Pairs Final

Suman Rai and Kay Vowles won the Herts County Cadet Pairs Final at Welwyn on 12th April, with a score of 64.03%. It was nip and tuck with the top 2 pairs changing places several times over the last two sets of boards and the final result only being settled after the director made adjustment to some earlier scores incorrectly entered by other pairs. Congratulations to Suman & Kay!

Our plans for 2019/20

The programme for next year starts shortly. In the interests of economy, we have decided not to print cardboard programmes from now on. The programme is available by clicking here Programme for 2019-2020.pdf , or by clicking on the  'Calendar' tab on the left hand menu on this page. We will also have paper copies available at the club for you to take away, if you prefer. We will not be holding our AGM until the end of May this year, although the new programme starts in April. Subscriptions will be due from the beginning of April, and will be £10 per person for the year.

We have decided to introduce one or two new prizes, with a focus on less experienced and middle ranking players. We are still working on the detail of this ... watch this space.

Teams League final results for 2018/9

The teams league final results are now available, click on Competitions in the left hand menu. Please note there have been a couple of corrections to results from previous months but this has not affected the top teams' rankings.

Finding a partner

We do not offer a hosting service but if you need a partner for a particular evening we will try to find one for you. Please contact us on - preferably by Weds - and we will email around to other members to ask if anyone is available. You must be willing to give your contact details (either a phone number or an email) so that people may contact you direct.

Scores and results

We aim to publish results on our website and submit to the EBU website on the same day as we play, or by the following Monday at the latest. If you have a query about a score, please let the scorer know as soon as possible.

The results section of our web site has lots of additional information on your own individual performance. To help you get the most from this results service please Click Here  to open the instructions on how to access this extra information.
