| The Club |
The Hambleden Bridge Club is a novice-friendly club. Our normal format is match-pointed pairs with a tea-break playing between 21 and 24 boards. Allowed conventions are based on EBU level 2 as used for the Berks and Bucks Friendly pairs events. Disabled access and facilities at the village hall are limited. We are affiliated to the EBU thru the Berks & Bucks CBA and award masterpoints. The club is also a member of Chiltern Bridge League which allows members to compete in various district league events.
Most of our TDs are EBU trained and they act as hosts to ensure all other members can play. Our boards are computer dealt using the club's own dealing machine. Hand records are available at the end of the session.
Visitors are welcome to a maximum of three visits per year after which they are expected to apply for membership. The club has approximately 100 members and when the membership reaches 110 a waiting list comes into effect. Those on the waiting list have full playing priveleges subject to available space. The club pays the tuition and boarding fees for one young Masai girl in Tanzania. As major beneficiaries of the current programme of improvement to the village hall we are active in fund raising for the hall.
