| Grantown Player Wins National Trophy! |
5 Grantown members travelled to Edinburgh on Sunday 24th May to compete in the finals of the Shenkin and Fairlie Trophies for Individuals. On a day when the sun shone brightly outside, it also shone particularly on the Grantown contingent who all returned excellent results.
Undoubtedly the best performance was that of Paula Wilson, who beat her nearest rival by almost 5% with 63.96% to lift the Fairlie Trophy for players of the rank of up to District Master. John Wilson came 4th with 55.21%, Alan Woodier 9th with 51.46%, and Silvia Woodier not far behind.
In the Shenkin Trophy, for players ranked Master and Senior Master, Adelaide MacPherson came a very creditable 12th with just over 50%.
All players felt shell-shocked after over 6 hours and 50 boards on the hottest day of the year so far, but the results were fantastic, and all went their various ways in Edinburgh to recuperate as best they could.

| Director's Course and Kelsey Cup Results |
Easter weekend saw Paula and John attend the Club Director's course in Elgin, run by John Wilson of the SBU. They found it very instructive and (hopefully!) useful, but certainly quite demanding! Gin and tonic/beer were very welcome on their return to Grantown each night! However, both passed all parts of the various assessments, and look forward to putting their new skills into practice.
Colin & Elaine Hill of the bridge class came 19th in Scotland (out of about 250 pairs) in the Kelsey Cup simultaneous competition which was held on the last Wednesday of the bridge class. 6 tables in Grantown competed, and the event was enjoyed by the class and the tutors were gratified to see how well the class members took to playing relatively serious duplicate. |

| End of Season Tournament - Elgin |
Seonaid & Mary, Quentin & Jean and John & Paula went to Elgin Bridge Centre on Friday March 26th to play in the above event held at the end of the Moray league season. None of them did particularly well, but all enjoyed good bridge, excellent company and a great supper. During the short speech at the end of the event and before the league cups were awarded, mention was made that Grantown planned to join the leagues next year, and this announcement was warmly received by the company.
This was a really excellent evening, and can be thoroughly recommended for next year!
