Okay, yes! It's a bit of a pet peeve - but properly "claiming" the rest of the tricks during play of the hand must be done in a certain way. BridgeGuys told me that making a claim in duplicate is different than in social bridge!! "In duplicate bridge, a claim or concession ends the play. When there is any dispute the director is called to hear the claimer repeat his statement and to adjudicate the result." BridgeWinners explains, -- Law 68C goes on, establishing that "the claim should be accompanied at once by a clear statement as to the line of play or defense that the claimer proposes to win the tricks claimed."
So, at your duplicate bridge table, a declarer may claim by exposing her/his hand and stating the line of play which will take all the rest of the tricks or concedes a loser to defenders. These articles make a distinction between claim (all the tricks) and concession (all but one or more tricks). But, in essence, they are the same thing!
When declarer claims, defenders should review the stated line of play. If there is ANY dispute, (maybe declarer forgot there was a trump out!) CALL THE DIRECTOR. Do not try to fix the claim without the director's help. You might say, "Wait. We need the director." This will prevent players at the table from collapsing their cards which might complicate giving correct information to the director.
A defender can claim (BridgeGuys), but "a concession by one defender is withdrawn if the other [defender] objects immediately." This happens less often, but involving the director before play resumes is highly recommended.
