  Club Constitution & Rules

 

  1. The club shall herein after be called the Frodsham & District Bridge Club

  2. The object of the club shall be to provide members with facilities for playing contract bridge in accordance with English Bridge Union rules.

  1. The club shall be managed by a committee consisting of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and five other members. A quorum of the committee shall be formed by four committee members.

  1. The chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and members of committee shall be proposed, seconded and elected by vote at the Annual General Meeting. They will hold office until the next AGM , when they shall retire but be eligible for re-election. The committee shall have the power to fill such vacancies as may arise during the year.

  1. The Annual General Meeting shall be held during the first half of October. The financial year of the club shall be from 1st October to 30th September. Two auditors, who shall not be members of the committee, shall be appointed at the AGM.

  2. An Extraordinary General Meeting may be called by the committee at any time for any specific purpose. Twenty one days notice of such a meeting shall be given.

  3. It shall be obligatory on the committee to convene such a meeting if the request is signed by 25% or more of the members.

  4. Every applicant for club membership shall be proposed and seconded by two members of the club. The applicant may be elected a member of the club at any committee meeting. The committee shall have the right to limit total membership of the club.

  5. Each new member shall pay an Annual Subscription immediately he or she is elected. Where a new member is admitted part way through the year, the first annual subscription may be reduced at the discretion of the committee.

  6. The committee shall have the power to call upon any member whose continued membership is considered undesirable, to resign after such member has been called to a special meeting of the committee and after a hearing, a two thirds majority of the committee present and voting, have voted for his / her resignation. The committees decision shall be final.

  7. Any member wishing to resign must send in his / her resignation in writing to the secretary on or before the 30th September. Failing such notice of resignation the member is liable for the annual subscription for the ensuing year.

  8. Every member of the club shall pay an annual subscription due in advance on 1st October each year. Any member whose annual subscription remains unpaid on 31st December shall cease to be a member, the membership having deemed to have lapsed.

  1. Sessions for bridge play and competitions shall commence and terminate at such times as shall be determined by the committee, having in mind the best interests of members and the facilities available.

  2. The committee may institute charges for refreshment, table fees, tournaments and guests.

  1. Any member may introduce guests on payment of current guest fee, provided the guest has not resigned at the request of the committee or through a default in payment of subscription.

  2. The rules of the club shall not be altered nor any rule made except at an Extraordinary or Annual General Meeting, and then only if notice of motion appears in the notice summoning the meeting.

  3.  Disputes or complaints on any matter must be made in writing to the secretary for the attention of the committee.

  4. Any questions relating to the laws of bridge shall be referred to the Tournament Director on that occasion, appointed by the committee, and whose decision shall be final.

  5. The Committee shall have power to make such bye-laws as it may from time to time deem necessary for the conduct of the club in so far as they are not inconsistent with these rules

  6. An AGM motion voting shall be by a show of hands, in the event of a tie, the chairman shall have a casting vote. There will be no postal votes.

  7. The club will maintain a club membership database of members contact details of names, home addresses , telephone and email address for committee / club purposes in accordance with the guidance of the ‘Data Protection Act’ which will not be divulged to the general membership or any external sources. Any members not wishing their details to be held in the club database shall inform the club secretary in writing.
