Foxhills Competitions
Foxhills Bridge Awards

Foxhills Bridge Club runs four annual competitions. All run from the first valid event in January until the last valid event in December, with the results being announced and prizes awarded at the 'Christmas' Party at the beginning of the following year. To be a valid event a session must consist of at least four full tables and be a normal pairs event; a one-off event such as a teams evening would be excluded. As the club's two main social events, the Christmas Party itself and the Golf-Bridge Day in the summer are often attended by different pairings and have specific prizes for each event, they are also not included in the annual competitions.

The Foxhills Bridge Cup

This is awarded to the individual or pair with the highest average score over the calendar year. It is open to all Foxhills Bridge Club Members who have played in at least 25 valid events in the relevant year.

The Millennium Cup

This is awarded to the individual or pair with the best average handicap place results over the calendar year. It is open to all Foxhills Bridge Club Members who have played in at least 25 valid events in the relevant year and who also played at least 10 valid events in the previous calendar year. The winner(s) of the Foxhills Bridge Cup is not eligible for this competition in the same year and is removed from the results at the end of the year, irrespective of their position.

The Handicap Cup

This is awarded to the individual or pair with the greatest improvement in their handicap over that from the previous calendar year.  It is open to all Foxhills Bridge Club Members who have played in at least 25 valid events in the relevant year and who also played at least 10 valid events in the previous calendar year. The winner(s) of the Foxhills Bridge Cup is eligible for this competition.

The Simon Rye Challenge Cup

This is awarded to the individual or pair with the highest percentage score for a single valid event within a calendar year. It is open to all Foxhills Bridge Club Members who have played at least 25 valid events in the relevant year.

The status of the three year-long competitions are displayed on the website and are updated automatically as the result of each event is uploaded. As the year progresses the website automatically calculates whether a player is likely to reach the required 25-event level. This can have the effect of not displaying members who are absent for significant periods or who are just slightly below the required rate. For that reason all the competitions begin the year with a required attendance of 1 event. This is gradually increased to 10 at the end of March, 15 in May, 20 in July and finally 25 at the end of September.

In order to provide at least a small level of unpredictability for the annual prize-giving at the Christmas Party, the status of all the competitions is not displayed from the end of November until after the results have been announced.
