FLASH MOB SWISS - Saturday September 22nd

By now you know the drill.  Sign up at the club as a pair.  The director will match up the teams so they are equitable in terms of strength.  A and B players on a team play against the A and B players on the other team; Cs play against Cs.  The cost is $15/pair.  Please arrive no later than 9:45 am.  The game goes from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Bring your lunch.

MIX 'N MATCH PAIRS - Monday September 24th

As and Bs, sign up at the club (or ask a C player to be your partner if you are not too shy). Cs - pick your partner from the list of As and Bs at the club, or put your name on the list.  Cs may play with their usual partner if they wish.  This is an opportunity to play with someone you normally play against.  Advice may be given, but only if requested.  The main thing is to have a bit of fun with this game.

Learn to Play Bridge Classes

Have you ever wanted to learn to play bridge?  Join us at the Fiddlehead Bridge Studio for an eight week introductory course.

WHEN:  Starting Friday September 14th,  9:30 to 11:30 am

WHERE: Fiddlehead Bridge Studio, 800 St. Mary's Street, Fredericton, NB

PROGRAM:  Bidding in the 21st Century (Club Series)

COST:  $12/session or $80 for the entire eight sessions, plus $30 for the book

Play and Learn

Are you looking to refresh your bridge skills or to practise what you have just learned? If so, then consider attending our play and learn sessions that are held every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The club has an experienced teacher and player who is there to answer your questions after (or maybe before) you play a hand. The play is very casual and relaxed and geared towards helping you learn more about this fascinating game.  You do not need a partner to attend.

The cost is $5/session.

All bridge players are welcome.

Slow Play

There will always be occasions when you have a particularly difficult hand, or something goes wrong and you have to call the director and end up finishing boards late.  However, consistent slow play to the extent of repeatedly holding up the next table or the pair following is not fair on them, and can result in the spoiling of their game.  They are usually rushed to make up the time you lost.

To help speed things up:

1.  Arrive in good time to allow the director sufficient time to set up the game.

2.  If you are on lead, please make your lead before writing the contract down on your card; if dummy, put down your hand before writing down the contract.

3.  Keep discussions of the hand just played until after all the boards are played at your table, and then only if there is sufficient time.

4.  Try to keep to a reasonable speed for your bidding and play.  You are allowed 15 minutes for two board rounds and 20 minutes for three board rounds.

5.  If you finish a round late, please make every effort to catch up during the next one; as Audrey Grant says, if you can't play well, at least play fast!

Zero Tolerance

ACBL strongly discourages the issuance of warnings for bad behavour. So please be for warned that this policy is now in full effect and penalties will be levied by our directors. Please visit the ACBL website and familiarize yourself with the zero tolerance policy. If you feel that unacceptable behavour is occuring at your table the proper response is to call the director.

If a player at a table behaves in an unacceptable manner, the director should be called immediately. Annoying behaviour, embarrassing remarks, or any conduct which might interfere with the enjoyment of the game is specifically prohibited by Law 74A. Law 91A gives the director the authority to access disciplinary penalties.

Unacceptable behaviour includes:

·        Badgering, rudeness, insinuations, intimidation, profanity, threats or violence.

·        Negative comments concerning opponents or partner’s play or bidding.

·        Constant and gratuitous lessons and analyses at the table.

·        Loud and disruptive arguing with a directors ruling.
