NEW!!! - Maritime Bridgeline Newletter
Smile of the Day

♣ Amnesia Double: When you make a lead directing double when you are going to be the one on lead.

Partners are extremely important. Who else to blame when you lose?

Paul Soloway  If 3NT is a viable option, then bid it.

♠ Oswold Jacoby  I favor light opening bids. When you're my age, you can never be sure that the bidding will get back around to you again. Oswald Jacoby at 77.

♣ Alan Sontag  It is not the handling of difficult hands that makes the winning player. There aren't enough of them. It is the ability to avoid messing up the easy ones.

A "weak response" is a pass after a forcing bid.

My partner and I had a misunderstanding ... he thought I knew what I was doing!

♠ A piece of bread is covered with jelly on one side. The probability of it falling jelly side up varies inversely with the price of the rug.  The probability of making a difficult contract varies inversely with the number of tricks you must take.

Welcome
Come and be Part of the Festivities!

♣  CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON ♠

Come one come all to the Fiddlehead Bridge Studio on Thursday December 21st to celebrate the Christmas Season with a Meet and Greet starting at 11:30, Lunch to follow around noon. Prizes and give-aways throughout.  We will be ready to play bridge by 1 PM.

DID YOU KNOW THAT.....

Did you know that…

…2018 club memberships are now available?  The fees are $20.00 - the same as last year.

We will have someone available before the game to take your membership applications on Monday and Thursday of this week, starting around 12:15 pm, and the Monday of the week after.

For the Tuesday games you can give your renewal form and membership fee to the director for the game.

NEW BRIDEMATE SCORING POLICY

You may not be aware of the time, confusion and cost required to fix a score that has been incorrectly entered in a Bridgemate and incorrectly accepted by the E/W pair.

After emails and telephone calls back and forth with both parties, the Director has to make a special trip to the club to amend the score in the ACBL Score program and then upload the revised scores to the ACBL and Fiddlehead websites.

This is not an easy task. Typically this requires a minimum of 1 hour on the phone and Email, 1-2 hours of travel time and 1-3 hours to fix the score and upload the results.

Directors are compensated for running the games but are not compensated for fixing scores .... which can be a difficult and onerous task .... trust me.

Soooooooooooooo ...... Effective immediately the Club is instituting a MANDATORY policy as follows:

After the completion of a hand the N player will enter the bridge contract and result into the Bridgemates .... as usual. Once entered the N player will pass the Bridgemate around the table and E/S/W will all confirm the accuracy of the result. The last E/W player to confirm that the contract and result are correct will "accept" the result on the Bridgemate.

This will take a very short period of time and should not affect the time required to run the game.

Our new policy will eliminate all scoring errors and make for more accurate results and happier Directors.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions please see any Director.

ZERO TOLERANCE NOW IN EFFECT
ZERO TOLERANCE NOW IN EFFECT

ACBL strongly discourages the issuance of warnings for bad behavour. So please be for warned that this policy is now in full effect and penalties will be levied by our directors. Please visit the ACBL website and familiarize yourself with the zero tolerance policy. If you feel that unacceptable behavour is occuring at your table the proper response is to call the director.

If a player at a table behaves in an unacceptable manner, the director should be called immediately. Annoying behaviour, embarrassing remarks, or any conduct which might interfere with the enjoyment of the game is specifically prohibited by Law 74A. Law 91A gives the director the authority to access disciplinary penalties.

Unacceptable behaviour includes:

·        Badgering, rudeness, insinuations, intimidation, profanity, threats or violence.

·        Negative comments concerning opponents or partner’s play or bidding.

·        Constant and gratuitous lessons and analyses at the table.

·        Loud and disruptive arguing with a directors ruling.
