Congratulations to James Bond and Graham Davison, who represented Farnham Bridge club with great credit, finishing 2nd in this event for the pairs champions of all Surrrey affliated clubs.
Following the success of the “All Farnham Festival of Bridge" last year, the combined bridge groups in the Farnham area held the first ever “Farnham Cafe Bridge” event on Monday 13th May. The event was rapidly sold out, with 100 participants and a strong waiting list. The event was a huge success, with a great deal of very positive feedback from participants. £2,130.00 was raised for Samaritans, a fantastic sum, well beyond original expectations.
Participants played several bridge hands at various cafés and restaurants in the town, enjoyed a tasty lunch and had the chance to win some great raffle prizes. Special thanks must go to the Spire/URC, which hosted registrations, results and prize giving, to the volunteer staff, and to the six participating restaurant venues. These were the Bush Hotel, the Wheatsheaf, Bills, Pizza Express, The Queens Head and the Slug and Lettuce. All provided 2 course lunches and coffees at very special rates for charity (Pizza Express making no charge whatsoever). The Bush Hotel additionally catered for all those with special allergies, a far from simple task. The very special support from the staff of all these venues is much appreciated.
Samaritans is a unique charity, bringing hope to life and dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide. Every six seconds, they respond to a call for help. Every year, they answer more than 5 million calls for help. The Farnham bridge playing community is proud to support such a worthy cause.
Congratulations to Manda Kimbery & Douglas Wright who were 1st, Rosie Robson & Dave Harper 2nd, Margaret Blewett & John Fairhust 3rd, and to all participants, however they fared, for making this such an enjoyable day.
