For 2016, the format of the competition will be changing and there will no longer be an Essex heat, though a heat will still be held at Barleylands as below.

This is a two session Pairs event held at various venues simultaneously. The event will be match pointed over the entire field via the internet. The starting times at all venues will be 13.00pm and 2 sessions of 24 boards will be played with a break between sessions. The second session will start at approximately 5.30pm. This is the first time that the EBU have run this event in Essex and we would ask interested tournament players to support Bernie Hunt in this new venture. Previously, after the local heat, players had to travel to Peterborough or Leatherhead to compete in the regional heat.

NOTE that as this is now an EBU competition, entry is via the EBU (members area/book events), not via the ECBA. The cost is £ 52 per pair.

Trophies will still be awarded to the Essex pair progressing furthest through the competition.

28 pairs contested the new-format Billericay half of the Eastern Regional final held at Barleylands. When rolled-up with Peterborough, Val & Paul Mollison came 5th and Richard Register & John Sutcliffe 6th (of 51 pairs). 

These Regional finals are rolled up nationally and the top 50 qualify for the National Final in April. Congratulations to Val, Paul, Richard & John for making it to the finals in 25th and 33rd place, respectively (of 244 pairs).
