Upcoming non-EWBA events

The EWBA has been invited to send a team to an inter-county Teams of Eight competition run by the Merseyside & Cheshire Bridge Association. The competition will be held on RealBridge on the 6th/7th July. The entry fee is £162 per team.

Competition Rules

 

EWBA COMPETITION REGULATIONS 2016-2017

 

These regulations apply to all Area events and Area qualifying rounds of WBU events.

In respect of WBU events these regulations are subsidiary and supplementary to the competition

rules of the WBU as published in the journal.

Membership of the WBU remains a requirement for membership of the EWBA.
Membership of a Bridge club in East Wales is not a requirement for membership of the EWBA.

 

SYSTEMS AND CONVENTIONS

Level 3 conventions apply to all Area competitions (but level 4 if incorporating WBU qualifier).

However, in novice competitions no opening bid which

has both weak and strong options is permitted.

AREA TOURNAMENT ORGANISER

The ATO will book accommodation and directors and provide equipment.

The ATO will communicate with the membership as noticeably as possible both for promotion of events,

and promulgation of results.

ENTRY

All entrants must be members of the EWBA (except for Novice events)

There will be direct entry to all Area events and to Area qualifying  rounds of WBU events.

It is therefore prudent to give early notice of entry to the ATO as numbers may be limited.

DIRECTING

Results will normally be available shortly after conclusion of play but will be subject to appeal for

30 minutes after announcement.

Final results of all events will be shown on the EWBA website.

AREA OPEN EVENTS

STAN BERGER TROPHY

This is the major Area Open Pairs Championship. It is green pointed according to size

of entry.

A minimum of 36 boards will be played over two sessions.

LOUIS LERMON CUP

This is the major Area Open Teams Championship. It is green pointed according to size

of entry.

A minimum of 40 boards will be played over two sessions.

ARTHUR JAMES BOWL

This is the Area Pairs Championship. It is green pointed according to size of entry.

A minimum of 36 boards will be played over two sessions.

MIXED PAIRS CHAMPIONSH

The Area mixed pairs is separate from the National event which is now direct entry.

VICTOR LUDORUM

This trophy (including cash prize) will be awarded

annually to the best overall performance by a player

in the 4 major events detailed above and the Area

qualifier for the WBU Open pairs

NOVICE EVENTS

These events are specifically for players new to

Bridge. Entry will be limited according to master point

holding and experience.

They will be single session events.

Participants do not have to be members of the EWBA.

CONDUCT

To encourage participation in our events please help

to create a friendly atmosphere.

There will be zero tolerance of abusive behaviour.

This will always be penalised, the level of penalty

at the discretion of the director, in

accordance with Laws 91A and 91B.
