Welcome to the new bridge season. The region has lots of exciting events planned - see the calendar for full details. Thanks to all those clubs who were represented at the opening Presidents' Night in the Templeogue Centre on Thursday 6 September.
The Fanagan League is a long-standing and much-loved feature of the Dublin South bridge calendar. Kindly sponsored since 1998 by Fanagans Funeral Directors, it is an inter-club team of four competition, run on a round-robin format, on a home and away basis, across a number of grade and age categories. The objectives of the league are to promote teams bridge and to encourage inter-club competition. The players who have played in it over the years have really enjoyed it, and have found it a great way to visit other clubs and make new friendships (albeit competitive ones!), It is traditional for the home team to provide a light supper for their visitors during matches, and the league concludes each year with an end-of-season gala event and prize-giving, with food and wine provided - this year's end-of-season event will be on Sunday 12 May 2019, in Templeogue.
If your club hasn't played in the league previously, or hasn't entered a team in a while, please give it a go this year. And there is no limit to the number of teams a club may enter, so if your club did play last year, you can always increase the number of teams to allow more of your members to enjoy this great competition. The entry fee is €60 per team, but no table money is payable for any of the nights of bridge, including the final gala night.
In 2018/19 there will be leagues for the following categories:
Confined Master (less than 100 National Points, but note that no team may field more than two Regional Masters - players with more than 40 National Points - in any one match within the competition)
Senior Intermediate (aged 60+ years and of Intermediate A or B grade)
Senior Open (aged 60+ years and of any grade)
Any queries on the Fanagan League should be directed to Ann Fitzmaurice (01-4943640 or email@example.com) please. Entries for 2018/19 are now open, with a closing date of Wednesday 10 October, after which the league co-ordinator will prepare and circulate a list of fixtures, to be played between November and May. All the important information in relation to the league is set out in documents below, including a special score sheet which should be used for all matches in the league.

The Fanagan League gala final night was held in the Templeogue Bridge Centre on Sunday 29 April, and as ever a great night was had by all. With record numbers attending, the Templeogue complex was full to capacity, which unfortunately meant there was no room this year for the traditional open pairs for those not involved in the final night.
Our sincere thanks to Fanagans Funeral Directors, the long-standing sponsors of this event - without their support it would not be possible - especially to David Fanagan who attended the final night and presented the prizes to the winners, and to the League Co-Ordinator, Ann Fitzmaurice, for her excellent stewardship and organisation of both the final night and the event as a whole.
