Well done to the Dublin South team who won the Cantor-Dowling trophy in the annual match against Liverpool over the weekend of 2/3 June - full details on the Liverpool Fixture page.
The Regent Bridge Club in Waterloo Road, Dublin 4, is holding a four-night summer festival of bridge, with lots of very attractive prizes across a number of categories.
These events, which will take place on Fridays 29 June, 20 July, 17 August, and 7 September, are open to all, with pre-entry required as places are limited. Full details, including how to enter, can be found here 2018 Regent Summer Festival
In addition, the Regent recently honoured the Irish Senior team that came so close to winning a medal at the recent European Championships in Ostend, eventually finishing fourth having occupied second position for most of the tournament. All six players (Nick Fitzgibbon, Adam Mesbur, Micheal O Briain, Padraig O Briain, BJ O'Brien, and Ranald Milne) are members of the Regent BC, and five of them (all bar Adam Mesbur) were able to attend the celebratory evening, along with their NPC, Derek O'Gorman, who in a brief speech thanked all the bridge players of Ireland for their interest and support over what had been a tense and gruelling event. He also quipped that he had played in so many events in the Regent over the years that he felt he almost qualified as an honorary member. The team, seen pictured with Regent President Ann Tuite, has qualified for the D'Orsi Bowl (Senior World Championships) to be held in Sanya, China, in September 2019.
The AGM of the Dublin South region was held in Templeogue on Friday 18 May. Our thanks to all who attended.
The Dublin South officers for 2018/19 are:
President: Bríd Kemple
Deputy President: Ciara Gleeson
Honorary Secretary: Máiréad Ní Oistín
Honorary Treasurer: Kevin O'Dea
Outgoing President Sheila Horkan is pictured having handed the chain of office over to incoming President Bríd Kemple.
This concludes the bridge activities for the 2017/18 season within Dublin South. We would draw members' attention to the CBAI AGM in the Athlone Springs Hotel, Monksland, Athlone, on Saturday 2 July, at 2:00 p.m. (please note the change of venue), to the Dublin Congress in Westmanstown on the weekend of 27-29 July, and to the Regent Summer Festival (see panel above).
The incoming Dublin South committee will be hard at work putting the schedule together for the 2018/19 season. Please check back here at the end of the summer for a full listing of events.
