How it Works

In order to provide a "Level Playing Field", Donore bridge Club operates a handicap system from 1st September to 31st May each year.

Handicaps were awarded on the following basis to each existing member of the club on 1st September based on their Master Point Grade with CBAI for the forthcoming season.

Novice N2 -8%Pts, Novice N1 -7%Pts, Inter B B2 -6%Pts, Inter B B1 -5%Pts, Inter A A2 -4%Pts, Inter A A1 -2%Pts, Area Master 0, Regional Master +2%Pts.

When a competition is scored, the two handicaps for all pairs are added together and divided by 2, to give an average handicap for that pair during the competition. (e.g. B2 -6Pts and A2 -4Pts gives and average handicap of -5Pts ((6+4)/2) for that competition)

If the pair in question scores 48.50 % during normal play, now adding their handicap of -5%Pts(minus handicaps are added on and plus handicaps are subtracted), this give a handicap score of 53.50%.

If a non member or a player who has applied to be a member but has not yet been accepted is playing, then a maximum handicap of -4 is allocated to this player based on the Tournement Directors knowledge of that players grade. Once the player has become a member or his/her CBAI details are made available the correct handicap will be applied asap.

The handicap system applies to all major competition throughout the year with the exception of "Kearney Travel Team of 4", "Sandra & Olga Cup", "Drew Cup / player of the year", "The Pairs Championship" and all "Draw for Partner" competitions..

Handicaps will be adjusted throughout the year by the Tournament Director, based on Major Competition results, in consultation with the TD assistants.
