 David Motley, leading the learning group, took an early retirement package in September 2006 after a long career with HM Revenue and Customs. He is not an "expert" player, but is a competent club player who began playing in about 1990. He is both a qualified bridge tournament director and he also has EBU 'qualified teacher' status.
Linda Motley, who will act as David's assistant (but who is very much the boss at home) also retired early a couple of years ago after a long career with Barclays Bank PLC. David had nagged Linda for many years to take up the game to give her a richer social life but Linda consistently declined saying that it was "far too intellectual" a game for her to cope with. Eventually however, she gave in to David's pleading and began lessons in about 1995. She now plays three or four times a week with a number of different partners at various clubs and, looking back, wonders what on earth she was scared about. |
