Bridge Tips

When defending remember that your lead indicates to your partner what other cards you hold in the suit you have chosen. If your card is not top of a sequence then

low=like or high= hate

where 2,3 and 4 are low and 7,8 and 9 are high

On the other side of the table if your partner is on lead your 'attitude' is expressed by the card you play

high= aye or low= loathe

Friday Afternoon Results

Congratulations to Trevor and Audrey for another fine win.

I posted the results on Saturday but have since amended them because it is apparent that the hands were switched on board 24 between rounds 6 and 7

I have amended scores for both Julia and Daphne and Carol & Harriet to 50% on this board

Please be careful when returning the hands to the wallets

We warmly invite visitors and new members to come and try our splendid facilities and to join us in creating 'The friendliest Bridge Club in Devon'.

St Audries Bay 3rd to 5th October

23 bridge players joined us at St Audries Bay for a hugely enjoyable weekend. We played 2 sessions of duplicate, talked about techniques and tried several practice hands from the Friday afternoon club.

The weather was very kind, the skies were very clear and the views were wonderful. Most of our group enjoyed a 3 mile walk on Saturday along the coast where the geology exposed by the recent storms brought comments such as 'wow' and through the very old, privately owned village of East Quantoxhead visiting the Church and the duck pond before completing our walk at the tea rooms at Kilve Beach.

Congratulations to Jackie Sheppard and Eileen Holland who won the first prize of a free wekend at St Audries on Saturday evening and a special mention to Jake and Lucinda who won the wine prizes on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

Everybody remarked that the staff and management at St Audries could not have been more helpful and we all look forward to our next visit in April when John Grifin will once again demonstrate the work he does catching and recording birds for the British Trust of Ornithology.

and finally my own personal thanks to everybody for making my weekend easy, relaxed and great fun.

Please contact Mike on 01398 341458 and 0758 544 2628 or by e-mail mike.gregory55@googlemail.com

There WILL be Practice Play every Fiday morning until further notice.

This session is very popular so please do join us for some very lively interactive discussion about hands that were played recently by Club Members
