TheClub shall be known as D15 Bridge Club.


Theobjective of the club shall be the playing and promotion of Bridge under therules, guidance and objectives of the C.B.A.I. and will be fully registered asa Club with the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland.


Membershipshall be open to both ladies and gentlemen. Each candidate for membership must complete and sign an application Formand forward to the Hon. Secretary.  TheCommittee, after considering objections, if any, by any member of thecommittee, to the candidate, may proceed with the election which must be bymajority vote of the committee. Membership then becomes effective on payment ofAnnual Subscription. 

Memberswho have not paid their Annual Subscription by 1st December in anyyear will be deemed to have lapsed their membership and must re-apply forelection.  Lapsed members will be allowedto play in the club provided they pay their table money but will not beeligible for any prize.

Lapsedmembers cannot play as guests within twelve months of lapsing their membership.

Membersre-accepted between the 1st Dec. and the 31st March will enjoy full membership benefits from date of re-acceptance if their annualsubscription is paid.

Newor re-accepted members on or after 1st April will be eligible toplay in all the Club Competitions but will be ineligible to win any prize in any competition listed on our Club Calendar.

TheClub welcomes guests or visitors.  Tablemoney must be paid, but they are not eligible for prizes on competition dayslisted on our calendar.  Any person whois ineligible for prizes under these rules and forms a partnership in pairs orteam events will automatically disqualify the full partnership or teams fromthe prizewinners.

In the event of any member acting insuch a manner as to bring the club into disrepute or to disrupt the smoothrunning of the club or the enjoyment of other members, the committee shall havethe right to reprimand such a member, and to warn them as to their futureconduct.  This may be done verbally or inwriting.  If the said member shouldcontinue to so act, the committee, if they obtain the full majority approval ofthe Committee Members, shall cancel such person’s membership and refund theirAnnual Subscription for that year.


The care of and responsibility for theproper administration of the D15 Bridge Club shall be vested in fiveTrustees.  They shall ensure that theCommittee interpret and administer this Constitution and the playing rules ofbridge as laid down by the C.B.A.I.  Theymust ensure that the Committee, does not act or allow members to act, in anymanner which would militate against Beginner, Novice or Intermediate “B”grades, and that the Committee carries out the objectives of the club at alltimes.  There shall be no restriction onTrustees holding any office in the Committee. Trustees shall be elected for a five-year period and may resign at anytime.  The remaining Trustees shall havethe right to co-opt any member as a replacement.  At the end of the five year term a newelection must take place, but at least three out-going Trustees with thehighest number of votes shall be deemed to be re-elected in the event of allout-going Trustees not being in the first five places in the ballot.


(i)      A Committee, elected every two years atthe General Meeting, which shall be held in D15, shall control the club.

(ii)    The Committee shall put into effect allResolutions passed at the General Meeting and shall make such Regulations asthey shall from time to time see fit, provided that such Regulations shall notalter, amend or repeal any Regulations embodied in this Constitution.

(iii)  The committee shall consist of thePresident, Vice-President, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer and 6 CommitteeMembers, including the ex-officio.

(iv)   The out-going President shallautomatically become ex-officio a member of the incoming Committee if he/she sowishes.

(v)     The Vice-President of the previous termshall be installed as President and shall nominate the new Vice-President atthe G.M. The election of Officers remains unchanged. No member of the Committeemay serve for a period of more than five consecutive terms. All Committeemembers must be elected by ballot or show of hands. All ballots are by simplemajority and the President shall have a casting vote. The G.M. shall elect theTrustees quinquennially and the remaining officers and committee from Sept 30th2011.

(vi)    Theclub shall nominate an Auditor to carry out the Annual Audit of the Accounts. Thiswill be done at the GM. Annual accountsshall be kept and made available to the Revenue Commissioners on request.

(vii) The committee have the right to co-optany member should a vacancy occur

(viii)                       For any valid meeting of the abovecommittee, there shall be at least (five) persons present.

(ix)   All decisions reached at meetings ofthe club shall be by simple majority and the Chair shall have a casting vote inthe event of a deadlock.


(a)   ThePresident shall preside over all affairs of the club and shall at all times beafforded the courtesy that the office demands. The President may preside over all or particular meetings of the club byexpressing such a wish.

(b)  The Vice-President will substitute for thePresident.

(c) The Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurershall administer the affairs of the club as laid down at the General Meetingand shall furnish all reports to the General Meeting.


The income and property of the club shall be applied solelytowards the promotion of its main objective as set forth in this Constitution.No portion of the club’s income and property shall be paid or transferreddirectly or indirectly by way of dividend, bonus or otherwise howsoever by wayof profit, to the members of the club. No Officer shall be appointed to anyoffice of the club paid by salary or fees, or receive any remuneration or anyother benefit in money or money’s worth from the club in respect of suchoffice. However, nothing shall prevent any payment in good faith by the clubof:

(i)      Reasonableand proper remuneration to any member or Officer of the club for any servicesrendered to the club (other than as an Officer)

(ii)    Reasonableand proper rent for premises demised and let by any member of the club (includingany Officer) to the club

(iii)  Reasonableand proper out-of-pocket expenses incurred by any Officer in connection withtheir attendance to any matter affecting the club

(iv)   Fees,remuneration or other benefit in money or money’s worth to any Company of whichan Officer may be a member holding not more than one hundredth part of theissued capital of such Company


Thecommittee may call an Extraordinary General Meeting at any time and must callone at the request, in writing, of one-third of the members of the club.


(i)                Alterations, amendments or changes tothe Constitution shall be made only at a General Meeting of the members andshall require a two-third majority vote of the members present and voting atthe meeting.

(ii)              No addition, alteration or amendmentshall be made to the main objectives and/or the income and property clauses inthis Constitution for the time being in force, unless the same shall have beenpreviously approved in writing by the Revenue Commissioners.


Noticeof the date fixed for the meeting shall be displayed or emailed to all memberstwo weeks preceding the General Meeting. Nominations and Resolutions must be displayed or emailed to all members beforethe start of the GM. A quorum of at least 20% of members must be present at anyGM or EGM.

4.                 WINDING-UP

If upon the winding up or dissolution of the club thereremains, after the satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities, any propertywhatsoever, it shall not be paid to or distributed among the members of theclub. Instead, such property shall be given or transferred to some other institutionor institutions having main objectives similar to the main objects of the club.The committee has the right to pick a chartable institution or institutions towhich the property is to be given or transferred.
