Criteria for Team Selection

CRITERIA FOR COUNTY TEAM SELECTION

Selection will take into account:

scores and relevant positions in EBU national events  such as the Corwen, Pachabo, Tollemache etc

performance in county events including the Congress

results in Cumbrian team matches

good results in other EBU events including  national simultaneous pairs etc

consistent  performance at club level.

Friendly matches will be based on the same selection criteria although a regional bias may be applied depending on the location of the match in order to minimise distances and costs involved in travel.

Individuals/partnerships can notify the selection committee if they would like to be considered, as can Club Secretaries if they think they know of suitable candidates. It is in the interest of the County to encourage as many players as possible to put their names forward in order to increase the pool of talent from which to choos

Arrangements for the Northern Bridge League.

Notification of selection will be agreed approximately 6 weeks in advance of the match date. At this point partnerships confirm their availability. It is particularly important that the Stand-by/Reserve pair also remain available to act as substitutes as ‘last minute’ withdrawals have occurred in the past.

NBL

Formed in 2006, the NBL is a teams-of-eight competition between the County Bridge Associations of Northern England and North Wales. The League is divided into three Divisions. The A Division is for teams consisting of players of the highest standard, the B Division is for regular County standard players, whilst the C Division is aimed at those who do not yet fall into the other categories.

There are four all-play-all events each year, held on Saturdays in the summer months. Events, which are usually of 42 boards, start at 1pm. A buffet meal is included and most people are on their way home by early evening.

This season Cumbria has two teams, one in the B division and one in the C division.

Notification of selection will be agreed approximately 6 weeks in advance of the match date. At this point partnerships confirm their availability. It is particularly important that the Stand-by/Reserve pair also remain available to act as substitutes as ‘last minute’ withdrawals have occurred in the past.
