| Synopsis of the BIRTH of Club97. |
A class started lessons in September 1996. When the lessons finished [Dec.'96] the teacher informed the class that three years playing experience was needed to join an established club. Thus, the necessity to form a NEW club. One of the pupils asked for a SIMPLE title for the club - WELL DONE Jim! A member of the Confederation 350 came up with the name - go raibh míle maith agat ART!! And so, CLUB 97 came to be in January 1997. It struggled for survival for 18 months. The survival of the club [finacially] is due to a certain individual on the Centre Committee - despite the perception of the Centre Committee Secretary of the time. How So? This person, "off his own bat", reduced the room rent for a period! Thank you P 0'B. 1st. Executive Committee:- President: MARTHA LANGTON; Vice-President: JIM DENBY; Secretary: MARY FAWSITT; Treasurer: LIAM HOLOHAN. As the Initial Vice-President, and the 2nd President, I [Jim Denby], accord the LIFE of CLUB 97 to the trojan work and organisation ability of Mary Fawsitt. Comhghairdeas Mary! |
