General Rules
General Rules

Competitions shall be held at such times and under such conditions as the general committee or any sub-committee shall determine.

Any suggestions or complaints regarding the arrangements of "The Club" shall be submitted in writing and handed to the secretary or any member of the general committee and shall be considered at the next committee meeting.

"The Club" accepts no responsibility whatever for the property or belongings of any member or visitor whilst on the premises of "The Club".

CROSS BRIDGE CLUB

CONSTITUTION

NAME

The Club shall be called Cross Bridge Club (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Club’).

AIM

The aim of the Club shall be to encourage players of various abilities to enjoy social bridge.

  • The Club shall not be affiliated to the English Bridge Union, although this decision may be reversed at any time if the Committee consider it desirable so to do.

COMMITTEE

The Committee shall comprise of the Chairperson, the Honorary Treasurer, the Honorary Secretary and 2 elected members.  The elected member’s names will be posted on the board at the Club.

The Committee shall be elected annually at the AGM, which shall be held in April.  Members shall  be given 28 day notice of the date of the AGM and any proposals must be given to a Committee member, in writing, 14 days prior to the AGM date.

MEMBERSHIP

An annual fee of £5 per person will be due 14 days before the date of the AGM.

Membership numbers will be limited to 52 and a waiting list will be compiled throughout the year for players who wish to join and when a vacancy occurs they will have priority.

For the purpose of ease of contact members will be required to supply a telephone number and where possible an email address, although these details will be solely for the use of the Club and will not be supplied to any other organisation.

Members who attend 10 or more meetings throughout the year will be eligible to attend the Christmas Dinner at a reduced rate, although guests may attend on payment of the cost in full.

MEETINGS

The Club shall meet weekly on Thursdays at Cross Village Hall, with the exception of those dates when the Hall is required by other clubs/societies etc.

Members are requested to arrive promptly for the 7PM start time, as late arrivals may be turned away if the playing order, i.e. Mitchell or Howell Movement, has already been decided.

The weekly table money shall be £2 per person or as may be decided from time to time by the Committee.

SPARE PARTNER ROTA

Each member shall be required to act as a spare partner.  The Spare Partner Rota shall be published on the board at the Club and will be sent to members who have submitted their email address.  In the event of a member being unable to fulfil their allocated date it is their responsibility to arrange a substitute.

In the event of the spare partner staying to play they will not be required to pay the table money for that evening.

It is the spare partner’s responsibility to provide milk for that evening. 

In the case of a member being required to go home when there not even numbers, a member will take preference to stay over a non member and that non member will be required to be the person going home.

GUESTS/POTENTIAL MEMBERS

Prior to bringing a guest, the member must seek agreement from a Committee member.

CESSATION OF THE CLUB

In the event of the Club permanently closing, the members at that time will have the right to decide which local charity/charities will benefit from any remaining funds after outstanding accounts have been settled.

AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION

The Constitution may be amended at any time that the Committee deem necessary after consultation with the membership.

Any matter not provided for in these regulations and all questions arising regarding their construction or implication shall be decided by the general committee.

The Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary and members of the general committee shall not be responsible, either individually or jointly, for any liabilities incurred by "The Club". All members shall be equally responsible for any liabilities incurred during their time of membership.

Alterations, additions or amendments to these regulations and constitution cannot be made except by a resolution at a general meeting.

These regulations and constitution were adopted at the Annual General Meeting held on 4th. April 2013.
