As amended at the 24th AGM on 13 April 2015
1. a) The name of the Club shall be Crookham Village Duplicate Bridge Club.
b) The Club may be affiliated to the English Bridge Union.
2. The object of the Club is the provision of Contract Bridge sessions for its members and their guests.
3. Every candidate for membership shall be proposed by a member of the Club.
4. Candidates for membership shall be elected by the committee at its sole discretion.
5. a) The management of the Club shall be entrusted to a committee consisting of at least the Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. At all meetings of the committee three shall form a quorum.
b) The committee shall have power at any time and from time to time to fill any casual vacancy among the officers and committee. Any officer or member of the committee so appointed shall hold office only until the next AGM but shall then be eligible for re-election.
c) Any two of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer may sign on the Club’s Bank Account.
6. a) Members shall pay an annual fee or table money for each attendance as determined by the committee.
b) Visitors, temporary members and guests shall pay table money for each attendance as determined by the committee.
7. The Club year will be from the 1 April to 31 March.
8. Every member shall pay an annual subscription as determined at the AGM. Any member whose subscription is not paid 10 weeks after the 1 April may have their membership terminated by the committee.
9. Full accounts of the financial affairs of the Club, duly audited shall be distributed at the AGM.
10. An Annual General Meeting of the Club shall normally be held in the month of April in each year and 15 months shall not elapse without an AGM. At the AGM the following business will be conducted:-
a) The Chairman’s report.
b) The presentation and adoption of the accounts.
c) The election of the officers and committee.
d) To deal with any matter that the committee desires to bring before members and to receive suggestions from members for consideration by the committee.
11. An extraordinary general meeting may be convened at any time and shall be convened within 21 days on the requisition of one fifth of the members of the club for the time being or 10 members whichever is the less. Such requisition must state the purpose for which such meeting is required.
12. The Secretary shall at least 14 days before any general meeting give or send to every member at his address as recorded in the Club’s books a notice of the meeting stating the time when and place where it will be held and the business to be conducted.
13. The business at a general meeting shall be limited to that provided by these rules and those further matters set out in the notice convening the meeting. The quorum at any general meeting shall be 10.
14. At all meetings of the Club all members shall have one vote.
15. The Chairman of the Club shall preside at all meetings of the Club but if he shall not be present within 15 minutes after the time appointed for the meeting or has signified his inability to be present at the meeting, the members present shall choose one of their number to be the Chairman of the meeting.
16. The committee shall have power to expel any member who shall offend against the rules of the Club or whose conduct shall in the opinion of the committee render him/her unfit for membership of the Club. Before any such member is expelled the secretary shall give him/her 7 days written notice to attend a meeting of the committee and shall inform him/her of the complaints. No member shall be expelled without first having the opportunity of appearing before the committee and answering complaints made against him/her nor unless at least two thirds of the committee then present vote in favour of his expulsion.
17. The committee shall be empowered to elect temporary members of the Club on such terms and at such subscriptions as they shall by resolution decide. The numbers of temporary members shall at no time exceed one tenth of the membership of the Club (excluding such temporary members).
18. Any member shall be entitled to introduce guests to the Club provided that no person whose application for membership has been declined or who has been expelled from the Club shall be introduced as a guest. The member introducing the guest shall enter their name and address together with his own name in a book which shall be kept by the secretary.
19. No alteration or addition to these rules shall be made except by a resolution carried by a majority of at least two thirds of the members present at a general meeting the notice of which shall have contained particulars of the proposed alteration or addition.
20. In the event of the Club being dissolved, the Assets or the Liabilities will be apportioned between fully paid up members in shares that compare to the length of time of continuous membership of each person. The longer the continuous membership the greater the number of shares.
