Just eight teams had a most enjoyable day's bridge with a good meal after two matches and tea/coffee before the last match. Winners were Ray Bliss (Sue John, Carol Trezise, Owen Prior) with 65 VPs, 5 VPs ahead of runners-up Chris Bickerdike (Sandra Bickerdike, Lynda & David Chidell). The winners had a commanding lead going into the last match, needing just 4 VPs to guarantee overall success. They lost by 11 IMPs (6-14) but still came out on top. Third with two good wins to finish with were Liz Perry (Bobby Harbisher, Liz Williams, Sheila Norman).

The first event of the new season saw 14 mixed pairs assemble in Ladock village hall on Sunday 9 October. With the help of his familiar tableside lamp, Barrie Benfield, and his partner Maureen Brinton, saw the cards better than anyone else, and emerged as victors with nearly 57%. This was nearly 2% ahead of runners-up, Chris & Sandra Bickerdike, with Brian & Elaine Relton close behind in third place.
