A really good turn out on Sunday, October 9th with 10 full tables competing for a fabulous set of prizes which were given by the club. There was also a brilliant raffle with around 30 prizes donated by Club members...there are still a lot of them unclaimed so I hope you have kept your tickets! If you have won one of them simply take you winning ticket to the TD of your session and they will give you the prize! At this stage we don't know how much money was raised but we will be sure to let you know when the Treasurer has the figures.

In the North/South section of the Bridge Tournament Wendy Lake and Gwyn Roberts outsmarted the rest with a score of 59.92%, with Marilyn Blake and Stephen Bentley finishing 2nd with 58.33%. There was a tie for 3rd place between Tim and Elizabeth Harrison and Olive Somerville & Chris Davies, both scoring 51.98%!. Tim and Elizaeth were awrded the prizes as they had the most "tops" at the event.

In the East/West section Norma Hyde & Diana Harris scored an excellent 66.27% to take 1st place with Trish Gompertz & Dave Johnston finishing joint 2nd with Mervin & Diane Black on 63.10 %. Trish and Dave were awarded 2nd place as they had the most "tops" on the night.

Thanks to all those who attended ....and to all those who gave the prizes and bought the tickets!....and well done Andy Cove for the excellent organisation of the event!

The Mixed Pairs event took place on Sunday, September 11^th with 6 full tables competing. Shirley Dobson & Alun Williams scored a great win with a score of 62.49%, after the handicaps were applied. Joyce Arrowsmith & Ben Aitken took full advantage of their handicap which moved them on to 58.07% enabling them to leap-frog several other players and take 2^nd place. Unfortunately Pat & Tony Murphy were hit hard by their handicap, dropping over 3% and moving them down to 3^rd place with 56.72% However, they did win the Trophy for the highest placed married couple!

This years Rachel Hornby trophy was contested by 24 students who have recently completed the 'Beginners Bridge' course.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 Teams of Four Competition, for The Alan Barker Trophy:  Tony Murphy and Trevor Oxtoby playing with Pat Murphy and Sue Kirk.

Once again, a very nice evening of Bridge well organised by Chief Tournament Director, Andy Cove.

Well, there may have been only 7 tables .....but what a close result!....and how important the handicaps were in deciding the eventual placings!

At the end of the competition it was a tie for 1st place between the Les Hoy/Brian Apfel partnership and the John Duxbury/Andy Cove pairing with Robert Burnside and Stephen Bentley in 3rd. ......BUT....after the handicaps were applied....Robert & Stephen leap-frogged the top 2 pairings to finish in 1st place, Les & Brian finished in 2nd, leaving John & Andy in 3rd. Phew!....that was some Tournament!

11 Ladies Pairs arrived at the Clifton Bridge Club on Sunday Evening to contest the Club's Annual Ladies' Pairs Competition.

Sue Kirk & Pat Murphy were crowned Champions, scoring 65.42%, with Sue Charleton & Marilyn Blake finishing 2nd with 61.75 % and Sue Donegan & Serena McKay finishing 3rd with 57.10%.

Everybody had a great time thanks to the excellent organisation by Tournament Director, Olive Somerville.

Fred Hall & Lesley Willacy beat off the challenge of ten other couples to claim the Mixed  Pairs Trophy on September 20th. Bob & Diane Fraser finished 2nd and also claimed the Fitch Trophy with being the highest ranked married couple. Chris Evans & Olive Soerville finished a creditable 3rd during an evening enjoyed by all. Many thanks, once again, to Andy Cove for organising the event and to long-serving member Gordon Acton for presenting the trophies and prizes.
