N-S
Assuming South overcalls 1♠, North needs to raise this to 3♠ purely on the basis of total trumps support.       x x     x     x   x
1
E-W
Assuming 1:(1♠), West should bid a negative double to show 6+ points and the unbid suits. With 6 losers and NV, East can then bid 4♣ over 3♠.                             x x x x     x x   x x
2
E-W
South will either open 2 passed round to East, or rebid 2 after 1:1♠. In either case, East on 11 HCP and the right shape should make a takeout double, which West can safely leave in. 2NT by West in response makes far fewer points.                             x x x x x x x x x x   x
3
N-S
South should open his six-card 1♣ rather than a five-card major. 1♣:(1):1NT:(No), 2♣ looks safest. With no fit and just 19 HCP, there is no justification for N-S to bid 3♣, 3 or 3NT. x       x     x x     x x
4
N-S
With 27 HCP between them, N-S must get to game rather than 3♣ or 3. Either No:1♣, 1♠:3♣, 3NT:No or 1♠:2♣, 2:2,2NT:3NT, No where the jump to 3♣ guarantees 6+ clubs and 16+ points, and 2 is fourth-suit forcing.         x   x     x
5
E-W
East should open his hand 1, not 3 or 4. Thus he can rebid 2(or 3 if pressed by the opponents) and find the 4-4 diamond fit.                                 x x x x x x
5
N-S
With 5 HCP, North must not give South any encouragement. He should not raise any spade bid by South, nor should he respond to a double by South if West first intervenes with a constructive bid.         x   x x x

N-S
With a void and a singleton, this does not look like a NT contract. Nor should North bully South into accepting a spade contract, when a 4-4 heart fit is available. Once their heart fit is found, North can use shortage points to revalue his hand for around 17 points and South for 19, so slam should certainly be investigated. But the bidding needs a gadget to find the heart fit, assuming South opens 1 (middle of the 4441 group) and North responds 1♠ (clearly longest suit with 10+ points). According to Klinger's Duplicate Bridge, pairs use checkback can use 2NT requiring a 3♣ puppet. If responder then bids a new suit, that shows a 5-4 shape and a game force. So it could go: 1:1♠, 1NT:2NT, 3♣:3, 4:4NT, 5♣:6, if you use RKCB 0314.   x   x   x x x x x x x x
9
E-W
If North opens 1♠, East does better to overcall 1NT (which West immediately raises to 3NT) rather than overcalling 2♣. And if North initially passes, East opens 1♣ to which West must respond 1 — because showing club support immediately means 3NT would likely be missed.   x   x   x     x     x
11
N-S
Another good advert for the Negative Double, assuming South opens 1 and West overcalls 1 or 2. If North cannot respond 1♠, he can show his 4 spades and 6+ points with a double; with 5 losers, South will rebid 4♠ in competition.       x
12
E-W
West should not pass with his 6-loser hand, as his side have 3 on and everyone else will pass. If North passes West's 1 opening, East will respond 1 and the fit is found. If North overcalls 2♣, East must make a compromised negative double, promising in theory both majors and 6+ points. With a void, West must not be bidding NT.                           x x   x x           x x
16
N-S
A good advert for opening 1NT on 11-14 non-vulnerable. Here if North opens 1NT, South can go straight to 4. But if North passes, East will usually open 1♠ and then South is more troubled with her 4-loser, 17 HCP, two-suited hand. Probably South should double and then bid hearts whatever North replies, to show her points and belief that hearts provide the best game. N-S must find game with a combined 28 HCP. x           x

With his 3244 shape and 13 HCP, West must double South's 1opening, and if North responds 1NT, East should bid 2 with 8 HCP.                             x x   x x     x   x
25
N-S
If North pre-empts 3♣, South must pass — he cannot respond 3NT or 4/5♣. (North has no entries for an NT contract, so all that club length will be valueless.)   x x         x x

E-W
Every table passed this all-vulnerable hand out, even though E-W have 3 and 3NT on. East should probably open 1. With only 21 HCP, E-W should never reach 3NT, but 2 looks a sensible resting place.                           x x x x x x x x x x x x x
