Claygate Bridge Club runs two main competitions during the year.
Rules of 2017-18 Club Championships and beyond |
- The annual Club Championship is held on the second Monday of each month from August to February inclusive. That gives each qualifying pair seven opportunities to participate.
- There will be one winning pair on each Club Championship evening. This will usually entail a Mitchell movement with an arrow-switch towards the end.
- The Club Championship is a Pairs League which can only be won by members. But guests and visitors may participate in any Club Championship evening.
- Qualifying participants must be members of the club throughout the August-to-February period. That is, if a player is not a member of the club by the second Monday in August, or has let their membership lapse before the second Monday of February, that player cannot qualify for the Club Championship.
- The score achieved by each qualifying pair on a Club Championship evening is the ranking obtained on that evening. For example, they score a '1' if they came first, or a '2' if they came second.
- There will be no upward adjustment of the rankings achieved by members when non-members have achieved a higher ranking on any of the seven evenings. Retrospective upwards adjustment will not be applied to earlier rankings in the current championship, should a member die or otherwise let their membership lapse before the second Monday of February.
- Each pair’s best four scores are used to calculate their final position. These four scores are then added together.
- The overall winners of the Club Championship are the qualifying pair with the lowest total score.
- Should play on any of the championship’s stated dates have to be cancelled for any reason, a new date will be decided by the Committee.
