Tom was 93 on 11 June, so Lyn baked a cake (lemon and succulent, sweet and moreish). Thank you, Lyn! And thank you, Tom!
From 30 April a new Bridge Club will be available, designed specifically to support Bridge players wishing to practice their bidding and card play. This is known as a Managed Practice club, where a qualified teacher and experienced Bridge player (Dom Wilson) is on hand to advise and suggest options for those who ask, and to provide articles and notes on specific topics on request. This new arrangement will replace the previous Improvers' sessions and Beginners' sessions, though fast-track learning will still be available on a bespoke basis. The new Club will meet at the Cross Houses Community Centre at 7.00 every Monday. Click anywhere in this item for further information.
You are very W E L C O M E at our club!
The CHURCH STRETTON BRIDGE CLUB meets every Thursday at 1.00 in All Stretton Village Hall for a relaxed, enjoyable and informal session of duplicate bridge. We welcome players of all levels, including beginners, so long as you know the basics (and if you don't but would like to, see tuition below). So feel free to bring crib notes or ask Dom's advice at any stage during the bidding or play.
At our 15/2/18 meeting we celebrated the award by the French government of the Légion d'Honneur to Tom for the heroic efforts of his crew in the 1944 Normandy invasions. Carolyn read the citation - in rousing French - and Tom responded with a very moving and emotional reminder of his late colleagues. Later we celebrated in our traditional way, with a cake from Lynwen and champagne and chocolates. Those looking down at our comfortable community, in a cosy English Village Hall, on a damp February afternoon, might reflect that their sacrifice was both fruitful and very deeply appreciated. Thank you, Tom.
(...oh, and we play Bridge between bites)
