The Monthly Prize Handicap Events restart in March 2016 and will continue for 12 months. As before the events will take place on the first Tuesday and Friday of each month.

How they Work 

The prize winners of the Monthly Prize event are determined by modifying the Rankings results for that session as follows:

• the competition is only open to fully paid up members
• the handicap for each partnership is calculated and deducted from the member's Ranking score to give the net score
•  If there are at least 5 full tables for the session, prizes are given in a One-Winner tournament (Howell)to the winners (best net score) and runner-ups (second best net score) In a two winner tournament (Mitchell) prizes are given to the two winning teams. If there are less than 5 full tables only the winners receive prizes. 
• Where prize winners have equal scores (it happens), prizes may have to be downsized.

Calculating the handicap

• Initial handicaps have been given based on 2015 ladder results
• Each time a member wins a prize 10 points are added (if the winner) or 5 points (if runner-up) to the member's handicap. In the event of ties the penalty points are proportionately reduced. 
• To calculate the partnership handicap for a session the average of the 2 players' handicap is calculated. If say A has handicap of 10 and his partner B of 0 then the partnership will have 5 points deducted from their ranking score.
• Separate handicaps are maintained for Tuesday and Friday events

Starting Handicaps

The top eight in last year's ladders have each earned a start up penalty of 5 points. All other members start with 0.

Visitors

Where a visitor is playing with a member, the member's partnership handicap will be the average of 10 points plus the member's handicap
