Minutes of 2015 AGM

Minutes from the 2015 AGM which took place on 2nd September.  The meeting began promptly at 6.30 pm with 36 members (including committee) in attendance.

The Chairman, Ray Beach, welcomed everyone.

Apologies were received from Phil Batt, Andrea Cramp, Phil and Enid Incledon, Chris Loughlin and Liz Waters.

Minutes of last year's meeting were adopted, being proposed by Bob Jepps and seconded by
Sue Gudgeon.  There were no matters arising.

Chairman's Report
It was noted that it had been a relatively eventful year, not everything had gone to plan.  Wendy Miller had stepped down as Chairman due to ill health.  It was good to see her back at the tables but she hadn't been persuaded to resume her chairman's duties.
The committee was thanked for easing himself into the Chairman's position and telling him in a straight forward manner what to do!
It was mentioned that Judith had gained a Beginners Bridge teacher's diploma in the hope of starting a course in 2016.
Sue had managed the club's finances efficiently and professionally despite issues with the bank.
Helen was thanked for all her help as Competitions Secretary and all peripheral work done without fuss.
Accolades to Phil for the time spent developing the club's website.  It would be good if more members used it.
Ann and Liz were thanked for volunteering to be Catering Managers.
Thanks too to our Tournament Directors and Scorers.  In particular Barbara who has done more than her fair share of the work.
A solution to the problem of a movement for 6 1/2 tables and an over-long sit-out had been found.
Attendance at Sim Pairs sessions have been disappointing this year.
The Coda Cup competition has been transferred to the Wells City Club in the quest for more money for charity.
The club has not been able to raise a team to enter any SCBA competitions this year.  Several of our members do compete in these competitions but prefer to represent other clubs.
There has been an enthusiastic response to the new Somerset Percentage Pairs Competition.
Finally, a plea for play to be speeded up so that sessions finish at 10 pm.

Treasurer - Sue Spink was proposed by Judith Strange and seconded by Liz Sims

Any Other Business

1.  Unanimous vote to hold Christmas Party before Christmas {16 December on Provisional List of  Events}.

2.  It was agreed four Sim Pairs events per annum

3.  There was considerable discussion regarding a Cheddar/Wedmore Bridge Club merger.  Bob Jepps, Chairman of Wedmore Bridge Club proposed that two or three members (Committee?) of Cheddar Club discuss and present the case to members.  If the vote is in favour of a merger then write to Wedmore Club for them to consider.  This motion was seconded by Malcolm Scard.

4.  It was agreed to put back the date {was a week decided upon?} for the 2016 AGM in order to allow Treasurer more time to prepare accounts.

The Chairman closed the meeting thanking people for their attendance and with a reminder that Sue was accepting subscriptions for the 2015/16.
