No more “STOP” Card

No more “STOP” Card

The ACBL Board of Directors has voted to eliminate the STOP Card for all tournaments after January 1, 2018.  While clubs have the option to retain the STOP Card, they have been encouraged to remove them from the bidding boxes to prepare for upcoming changes when players attend tournaments after January 1st. More detail is available in the September issue of The Bridge Bulletin.

At a meeting held on September 22nd, the executive of the Charlottetown Duplicate Bridge Club voted unanimously to eliminate the STOP Card from bidding boxes effective October 1, 2017.

Please note:

  • Players in the direct seat are still required to pause following a skip bid to avoid making unauthorized information available to their partner;
  • Players should always strive to maintain an even tempo during the auction;
  • Players must also refrain from gratuitous comments or actions that might convey unauthorized information to partner;

The directors will provide a reminder to players at the commencement of games over the next few weeks until we are all comfortable. In the meantime, please approach any of the club directors with questions on the subject.

Welcome to the Charlottetown Duplicate Bridge Club, established in 1958.

Objectives:

  • To bring together people who are interested in the game of bridge;
  • To further in those people a spirit of good sportsmanship and decorum, and to offer them an opportunity to improve their knowledge and competence in the game of bridge;
  • To promote the game of bridge in the City of Charlottetown and surrounding areas;
  • To educate public opinion regarding the recreational value in the game of duplicate bridge.

Four sessions of open pairs sanctioned duplicate bridge are played each week, including computer generated hands, with detailed results uploaded for member information.

Novice bridge (with mentors) will restart in early September, enjoy your summer.

* It is appreciated when players arrive and are seated 10 minutes before start of game. This allows the Director time to determine the number of pairs/tables, distribute movement patterns, boards and Bridgemates and input information for the electronic scoring units. The aim is to start on time.
