The Home of New Friends, Good Food and Fun Bridge

This club was formed to play bridge and more importantly to get a chance to know the people with whom we spend so much time.  To that end, we spend the afternoon competing  and afterwards meet for dinner.  Please join us.

Jeanette's Great Bid.

April 6 STaC using The Common Game Hands

Only 67 of 1071 pairs found the diamond slam on this hand. Thanks to Jeanette's use of a splinter to show her diamond support and shortness, we were one of those pairs for 94% of the matchpoints..  She splintered over the 2  response by making a double jump shift in clubs.  North bid hearts to show first round control and Jeanette asked for aces.

New Year’s Resolutions

by Dar Webb

Let’s face it, New Year’s resolutions can be pretty tiresome. After resolving to eliminate junk food, cut down on drinking, and be nicer to your in-laws, what’s left?

You are On Lead

This hand was from the Dayton Regional.  Thoughts: LHO showed at least 5 spades, so the natural 4th best spade lead is out. RHO bid clubs so underleading the ♣ K seems masochistic.  RHO also bid notrump so he has the diamond stopper(s) and four to the jack will be awfully hard to set up.  But, it's better than spades or clubs.  What about hearts?  Dummy showed 4 hearts, declarer probably has at most 3 which gives partner at least 4 maybe more.  Partner has at most 5 points.  Leading a heart will either work really well or be horrible.  Passive or attack?  I decided to attack resulting in down 2 for declarer.

Stand By Partner

No partner? No problem.  Don't stay home just because you don't have a partner.  Players will be paired up and the director is on standby to play if there are an odd number.

Correcting Errors

The following is the procedure for correcting scoring errors.

If it is an entry error meaning  it was entered into the computer incorrectly, notify a director and it will be reentered correctly.  An example is the score sheet shows plus 620 for NS, but was entered into the computer as plus 620 for EW.  This is an entry error requiring nothing further than pointing it out.  Score sheets are kept until the next game so the deadline for fixing those errors are the beginning of the next game.

In the case of scores entered incorrectly on the score sheet, both sides must agree to the correction.  For example the score sheet reads 1NT E made 2 plus 120 for NS.  Something is wrong, but what? Should E really be N or S?  Or is East correct and the score should be plus for EW?  If you find one of these errors, please contact the pair then both pairs contact me and I will correct it.  In rare cases, the director may be able to correct an "obvious" error otherwise if the pairs do not agree, the score as written will stand.
