Yeovil Bridge Club are offering Bridge Lessons on a Thursday Afternoon beginning on 6th October 2016. This course will be aimed at the absolute beginner but if required will also include a separate session for those wishing to improve.

The YBC AGM was held last night 1st September 2016.  

The Chairman gave a short resume of the reasons why the Club had only opened on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays and then invited comments from the floor. Members agreed that the small numbers turning up was a problem but felt that there was more chance of more people attending if the Club was open on all Thursdays. The vote for this was unanimous. The full minutes will be published shortly. (see under Minutes & Newsletters)

The meeting was followed by the presentation of Trophies which this year was performed by Shirley Durrant. Winners can be found under Competitions.

We then sat down to a 5 Table, 27 Board session.

CLUB OPENING

The Club will  be open for Bridge on all Thursdays unless notified otherwise.

Members have agreed with the recommendation by the Committee that from the 4th June all Club sessions will start at 7.00pm. Hopefully this will alleviate the problem of late finishes.

NGS Update - Nov 2015

There has been some concern that players who volunteer to play as a host may sometimes have their NGS Grading affected by playing with a new partner.

As you may (or may not) know the EBU NGS scheme went live on 1st March 2012. ( see here:   NGS Scheme )

This scheme aims to provide members with an overview of a players current playing ability rather than the Master Point grade achieved over a players playing career.

Most of the displayed fields are self-explanatory but as to the meaning of the grades, you will have to read one of the documents above for an explanation.

Hopefully, this short article will have whetted your appetite to go to the EBU website to check out this new Grading System.

If you are directing, it would be appreciated if you could :

1)     arrive by 6.50 and organise dealing of boards

2)     at the end of the session, remove all score slips (if used) and put boards in the box in numerical order. Also ensure Name Slips have been filled in (if used) and placed with the score slips.
