In the EBU Children in Need event on Tuesday 9th November Hilary Dewey and her partner Andrew Wigmore managed to come 4th in a national event where there were 1073 pairs playing.   Because of Covid restrictions Andrew and Hilary have never met each other and started their partnership online during lockdown.
We want to congratulate them on their success.

CYBC BELATED YEARLY CELEBRATORY LUNCH

CYBC BELATED YEARLY CELEBRATORY LUNCH

Members met at the White House Pub, in Bladon to enjoy lunch and celebrate being able to meet again socially and catch up on Club news.

David Bygott, Chairman and Co-founder of CYBC presented Claire Johnson with the Club’s ‘Crystal’ bowl achievement award, at their celebratory lunch on 29th September. The award was given in recognition of Claire’s work and commitment to the successful continuation of the Club during the period of the pandemic. Club members thanked Claire for organising and co-ordinating on-line ‘Real Bridge.  This enabled members to continue to meet and play bridge, twice a week thereby maintaining playing skills, meeting other members and for some forming new partnerships.

Jonathan Price, Treasurer, presents Robin Jones with a bottle of champagne to thank him on behalf of the Club for organising the  ‘Celebratory Lunch ‘at the White House Pub, Bladon. The White House has recently become a community pub and CYBC enjoyed a first rate lunch in pleasant surroundings and wish the White House all success as it continues to serves the community that now owns it. Club members expressed their thanks to Robin who has had to reorganise the lunch several times due to the pandemic.

Crystal Trophy presented to John Rowe

The Crystal bowl,  in memory of Crystal, a former member of the club, was this year presented to John Rowe by our club secretary Mo.

The presentation was to say a big thank you for all the time he has spent directing the Just Play games and computerising the scoring system which gives the members instant access to their game results.

Announcement regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

17th March 2020

Dear Member

You will all have received Mo’s email, based on the announcement made by the Prime Minister and Health Advisors asking that, in an effort to reduce the impact of the Coronavirus, individuals’ cease social contact in groups. We are therefore stopping the Tuesday and Thursday morning Bridge Club meetings for the foreseeable future.

Over the last couple of years we have been pleased with the way the Club has developed and from the feedback we have received we are aware that the Club has become an important social event for many of you, a viewpoint we share.  We regret having had to take this action but know that you will all be able to appreciate that we have no other option.

We hope that you will all be able to practice your bridge play at home with family and close friends and return to the Club later in the year when we are given the ‘all clear’, more proficient than ever.  There are several applications that can be downloaded to enable you to play bridge on-line; we are aware that a number of members use ‘No Fear Bridge’ which you might find useful.  The EBU’s website also has helpful information regarding play during this difficult time.

Our intention is to resume meetings when advised that it is safe to do so without placing any of our members at risk and will aim to inform you whenever we are in a position to do so.  In the meantime we hope to keep the Club’s website updated so please peruse on a regular basis.

Take care of yourselves and keep well.

Regards,

Jonathan Price
