The purpose of the handicap competitions is to improve the integration of members by removing the "them and us" barriers and to assist improvers developing their game while at the same time attempting to level the playing field to all members.
Handicap competitions always prove controversial. If handicap competitions proves attractive to the members then future handicaps will be based on actual results recorded in the Bridge Score computer system. Until we have built up sufficient results in the software (4 competitions) we will base our initial handicaps on the following parameters
1. Each Pair’s grade will be based on the higher ranking of the pair.
2. Each Pair will be awarded a handicap based on
A2 Pairs will play off zero handicap
A1 Pairs will play off – 5%
Masters will play off -10%
B Players will play with + 5%
Novices will play with +10%
3. If these handicaps prove ineffective then there may be an adjustment to the above handicaps. i.e. The average of each grade after omitting the best and worst scores will be considered.
