| Bridge at the Brookdale |
Welcome to the webpage of the Bridge Section of the Brookdale Club, Bramhall.
Situated in the leafy suburbs of South-East Manchester, close to rural Cheshire and the Derbyshire Peaks, the Brookdale Club is a Members' Social Club founded in 1943. The club has fourteen semi-autonomous Sections covering a wide range of leisure activities of which Bridge is only one. To find out a little more about the Brookdale Club see the "News" tab to the left of this page, or use the link under the "Useful Links" tab lower down .
Our ethos is that the Bridge Section should be relaxed and welcoming. We have over 300 members, and we try to cater for all abilities. We run three sessions of duplicate bridge each week, two sessions of rubber bridge, a training session for absolute beginners, and an improvers group where you can just play duplicate, or there is tuition and supervised play for those who want it.
A part of the Brookdale Club Bridge Section, but separately administered, is the Bramhall Green Bridge Club which is affiliated to the EBU and offers duplicate bridge on Thursday evenings.
New members are always most welcome, and more information is available from our Bridge Membership Secretary, Tom Burniston, on 0161 439 1463, or through the Contact page on this site, or the "Join Us" page on the Brookdale Club website. It is a requirement that all members of the Bridge Section should also be members of the Brookdale Club.
Visitors are also most welcome, but are restricted to four visits per year. If you find you want to play more frequently, we shall be happy to greet you as new members.

| Bridge Tuition |
 Beginners
We hold Bridge sessions for beginners every Thursday morning between 9.45am and Noon.
It is intended that these lessons are suitable even for someone who has never held a pack of cards, and to take them to a sufficient understanding of basic bidding and card play to enable them to join an Improvers session with confidence. The programme is tailored to each individual's needs which allows the process to take as long as he or she wishes it to.
Intake to this group is on an annual basis, on the last Thursday morning in September. If you are interested for this coming September, or require more information, please contact Derek Bailey on 0161 483 6347 or leave a message on the "Contacts" page of this site
Improvers
Our Improvers group also meet on Thursaday mornings at 9.45am, and play finishes at about 12.15pm. It is intended for those who have progressed through the Beginners group, or for club members who want to improve their game, or for those who just want a nice gentle game of duplicate on a Thursday morning.
The session is organised differently on (roughly) alternate Thursdays. On the 1st and 3rd Thursdays in the month the whole group meet together, and play in one room, often in two sections. Experienced club members are present to offer help and guidance to those who want it, but those who don't are left in comparative peace to enjoy their game.
On the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Thursdays, the group splits into two rooms. For those who want it, about 30 minutes of formal tuition is given, followed by supervised play. The other group play a straight game of duplicate with no help or guidance on the play.
If you want more information about the Improvers group, please contact Margaret Steed on 0161 485 7646 or Pat Wareing on 0161 485 7513
