| Teams of Four Competition |
|
|
|
Why not enter a team in the South West Kent Teams competition. The sessions will be played in Southborough on the third Thursday evening of each month from November through to July 2009 excluding December. Table money is £3 per player to include refreshments.
After round 1- 20 November - the leader board is
John Murrell (mixed) 5
Chris Bainham (Crowborough) 4
Stephen Pierce (TW) 3
Jim Garlinge (Otford) 2
Nick Warren (Crowborough) 1
The next date is 15 January and this will be a pivot competition, where each member of the team will partner the other three in turn. There will be a prize for the top pivot team. Teams that don't wish to pivot are still welcome but can not win the prize.
If anyone would like to enter a team, please let me (Stephen 07973 207218) know. It is preferable if four or five people form a team together but any number of substitutes is allowed.
The format will mainly be multiple teams, but to add to the fun, there will be a mini-swiss teams evening and a handicap event. The field will be split into two divisions for the last three months, to give the lower scoring teams a chance to win the “plate” competition.

| Sonnet of the Week |
BRIDGE FOR FUN by Tony Wilkin
Bridge will always be taught by us for fun,
Twelve to fourteen points with a balanced hand
Bid one no trump and the hand may be won,
Although a double it may not withstand.
Do we have sufficient points to respond
When two clubs is bid from opener's hand?
Or will we have to wave a magic wand,
To produce a contract for us to land.
Acol, transfers, and stayman to be played,
Finesse the Queen or drop the King in one?
Was that the contract that should have been made,
When our fine bidding was not set upon?
Whatever the result enjoy the game,
And at the end do not apportion blame.
