Brentham Renovations

The Brentham Club has had a long-overdue facelift. The function hall is now completely refitted with air conditioning, new flooring and ceiling, and a refurbished bar. There are new toilets, a smart new entrance lobby, and a cafe/coffee lounge. There is a major fund-raising effort going on with a ‘Buy A Brick’ campaign - over 5000 are needed for the extension. You can find more details at www.brenthamclub.co.uk/www.brenthamclub.co.uk/

EBU News

The EBU requirements relating to Strong bids (e.g. Benji 2 Clubs)  changed on 1st August 2007.  In summary, a hand can be described as "strong" if it contains either

a) 16 HCP, or

b) meets the "extended rule of 25" (i.e. add the hcp points to the length of the two longest suits), or

c) has 8 clear playing tricks.

So a hand containing as little as 10 points and a solid 8-card suit (e.g.  AKQJxxxx, xx, xx, x) can once more be described with a strong 2 bid.

More EBU news can be found by clicking ‘Bridgewebs’ (on the left of this page),  and then  ‘EBU News’ on that page.
