| Introduction |
The Brentham Bridge Club is part of the Social Section of Brentham Club, the long established Sports Club on the Brentham estate. This was one of the first English Garden Suburbs, situated on the north side of Pitshanger Lane, Ealing. Other sections of the club include cricket, football, tennis, snooker and bowls. Further details can be found at www.brenthamclub.co.uk/. Members also have access to the well-appointed bar. The Bridge Club is affiliated to the EBU and the Middlesex County Bridge Association . Using pre-dealt hands, we play on Wednesday evenings in the main hall of the club, which is air-conditioned and has recently been redecorated to a very high standard. Disabled facilities are excellent. More information can be found on later pages of our site. |

| A WORLD RECORD! |
| | Bidding | | W | N | E | S | Pass Pass Pass Pass | 2 3 4NT 7NT | Pass Pass Pass Pass | 2 4 5 Pass | On 24th March Chris & Rebecca Bonser managed to bid and make 7NT with a combined point count of 25 HCP between their two hands. The hand was played 11 times at the Brentham club that evening and although everyone made all 13 tricks, there were 9 different contracts and they were the only pair to bid 7NT. After a strong 2D opening bid, the key bid was Rebecca's second response of 4D. Chris then used Blackwood and established they had all 4 aces. Fortunately the missing diamonds split 2-1 so that all 13 tricks rolled in. On checking with the editor of "English Bridge", they discovered that they had set a new world record for bidding and making 7NT with the lowest combined point count. The hand will be featured in the August edition of the magazine. | | | A K | | 2 | | K 10 8 7 6 5 4 3 | | A K | | | | Q 8 2 | | K 10 6 | | J 9 | | Q 9 7 6 5 | | Board No 13 | | J 7 6 5 4 3 | | Q J 7 | | Q | | J 10 3 | | | | | 10 9 | | A 9 8 5 4 3 | | A 2 | | 8 4 2 | | | Played 11 times, 9 different contracts | Board No 13 Both Vul Dealer North | | Pairs | Contract | Scores | MPs | | N/S | E/W | Bid | By | Tks | N/S | E/W | N/S | E/W | | 7 | 19 | 7♦ | N | 13 | 2140 | | 17 | 3 | | 6 | 17 | 7NT | N | 13 | 2220 | | 20 | | | 5 | 15 | 3NT | N | 13 | 720 | | 10 | 10 | | 4 | 13 | 5♦ | N | 13 | 640 | | 8 | 12 | | 3 | 23 | 6♦ | N | 13 | 1390 | | 12 | 8 | | 2 | 21 | 4♦ | N | 13 | 190 | | 3 | 17 | | 1 | 18 | 6NT | N | 13 | 1470 | | 14 | 6 | | 12 | 16 | 7♦ | N | 13 | 2140 | | 17 | 3 | | 11 | 14 | 2♦ | N | 13 | 190 | | 3 | 17 | | 24 » | « 10 | 4♦ | N | 13 | 190 | | 3 | 17 | | 22 » | « 9 | 3♦ | N | 13 | 190 | | 3 | 17 | |

| 25th ANNIVERSARY |
ANDREW ROBSON SEMINAR Brilliant! Twenty two tables were packed into the hall. Members from Brentham, the Ealing Club, W4 Club and friends arrived. The bar was opened and the man himself towered over us all. We were in for a session of Andrew Robson. Roman Key Card Blackwood, Splinter bids and a bit of Jacoby 2NT! How were we going to digest it all? Well I don't suppose we did but heck, what a session. We played with Andrew Robson type cards and we learnt through playing. He demonstrated the whys and wherefores and we all made mistakes. We played the hands and we all went down. But never did we have so much fun in doing so. Three and a half hours later (mind we did have two short breaks) we got the idea. So watch out - we'll be practising our new found skills on all of you - bidding and making slams on twenty one points! Andrew's mastery of bridge is acclaimed but to be able to teach in such a relaxed and easy manner must set him apart. A big thank you to Andrew, and to Chris also for organizing such a superb evening. A great start to our 25th Anniversary year! More pictures on the News page. |
